    Natural Sciences and Technology Teacher (SP)

    Purpose of Role:

    • SPARK Schools teachers drive student achievement by maintaining high expectations for classroom culture, behaviour, and academic growth for all scholars.. The Natural Sciences and Technology teachers work collaboratively in leading an integrated inquiry-based curriculum and receive on­going professional development customised for their past experience and individual needs.

    Reports To: Assistant Principal or Principal

    Requirements

    • Plan for and deliver lessons from 7:05-16:00 pm daily.
    • Collaborate with grade level and content area partners to develop rigorous, engaging learning experiences and to create and implement high quality individualised behaviour and learning plans for scholars.
    • Create termly medium plans.
    • Create formative and summative assessments for your subject area.
    • Run a rigorous and robust club termly
    • Plan and submit weekly lesson plans
    • Add to the creation of termly XC projects.
    • Participate actively in all scheduled professional development sessions.
    • Administer formative and termly assessments to track student progress and analyse the data for student growth for all scholars to meet the required proficiency ratings.
    • Develop SPARK culture and implement behaviour management strategies.
    • Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues, parents and other stakeholders.
    • Conduct self in a professional manner at all SPARK Schools events and to all stakeholders.
    • Nurture a high ­achieving work environment where all scholars feel genuinely valued and supported.
    • Promote the vision and mission of SPARK Schools to staff, scholars, families, and the greater community.
    • Implement strategies implemented by the Crisis Management team. Adhere to the child protection, anti-bullying and health and safety policy.
    • Attend Saturday events and parent community meetings.
    • Submit student results data when required.

    Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

    • English language fluency
    • Completed B.Ed or PGCE degree (SP & FET) Sciences Focus/Majors
    • SACE registration
    • Clear criminal record

    Subject Lead (HS)-Sciences (Mathematics, Natural Science, Technology, EMS) 2021

    Requirements
    Purpose of Role:

    The SPARK Primary/High Regional Subject Lead supports regional student achievement by supporting subject specific curriculum and assessment development to accurately drive student progress to CAPS aligned standards. This should be achieved parallel with rigorous professional development and support to academic leaders at a regional level.

    The role will be at the direction of the Curriculum and Assessment Lead/s, based on network-wide gaps and needs, informed by student achievement data. The role is a job enlargement available to a successful veteran teacher, Trailblazer, Assistant Principal or Principal role at SPARK Schools.

    The Subject Leads’ academic leadership in the SPARK Schools network is integral to the SPARK Schools mission to support the creation of systemic change in South African education.

    Reports To: High School Curriculum and Assessment Lead.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support the monitoring, refinement, and implementation of the curriculum and assessment model at SPARK Schools by:
    • Supporting the planning and delivery of pre-service and in-service professional development for school leaders and teachers on curriculum, at least once per term - in person or virtual
    • Clearly and timeously communicating training expectations and academic content updates to school leaders.
    • Visiting schools within the region to support academic implementation and/or conducting virtual check-in meetings with regional subject coaches.
    • Checking and scripting of subject-specific PD plans.
    • Creating and checking assessments and memorandums.
    • Supporting regional subject-specific moderation.
    • Cross-checking documentation of scripted internal processes at SPARK schools e.g. policies, timetables.
    • Supporting the Curriculum and Assessment Leads with creation and effective implementation of subject-specific curricular resources and exemplar lesson plans.
    • Supporting the Curriculum and Assessment Leads with content building/checking on the internal LMS, itslearning.
    • Supporting the planning and delivering of onboarding of new-to-SPARK teachers.
    • Demonstrate commitment to support regional student achievement through:

    - Researching new and innovative curriculum practices.
    - Supporting the alignment of the academic curriculum with government standards, SPARK’s best practice, and international expectations and benchmarks, with guidance from the Curriculum and Assessment Lead.
    - Documenting and communicating Yearly/Termly plans or scope and sequence maps for each grade level and subject, in conjunction with internal assessments.
    - Monitoring grade-level, subject-specific progress against scope and sequence maps and assessments, using data analysis tools.

    • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, honouring schedules,coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
    • Participate in and drive own professional development with a requirement to uphold standards of primary role as teacher or school leader, and if unable to do so, would be asked to step out of this position
    • Conduct self in a professional manner at all SPARK Schools Support and SPARK Schools events and to all stakeholders.
    • Nurture a high-achieving work environment where staff feel genuinely valued and supported.
    • Promote the vision and mission of SPARK Schools Support to SPARK Schools Support staff and SPARK Schools staff, scholars, families, and the greater community.
    • 1 day per month of secondment to SPARK Support/Regional Venue to work with the C&A lead in-person
    • RL would be responsible for arranging cover with their line manager and the completion of any tasks in advance of this working day.

    Experience:

    The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and criteria:

    • Three or more years of teaching experience with a proven track record of academic achievement OR
    • Teaching experience with a proven track record of academic achievement and at least a year of SPARK Schools leadership experience.
    • Experience in supporting/coaching/mentoring members of staff at a SPARK school.
    • Experience in planning and facilitating professional development and adult training.
    • Experience in administration, marking and moderation of assessments.
    • Experience in participating in school-level data analysing and inquiry as well as facilitating professional cycles of inquiry to improve instructional practice.
    • Awareness of leading practise in subject-specific primary education - nationally and internationally.

    Regional Manager (Acting) - Primary Schools

    Requirements

    Purpose of Role:

    The Regional Manager is responsible for the instructional and operational outcomes of the schools in their designated region. The primary role of the Regional Manager is to manage, coach, and support the Principals of the schools in their designated region, with emphasis on excellence in scholar achievement, school operations, and professional and leadership development.

    Regional Managers work closely with the functional teams in SPARK Support, SPARK Schools’ central office, to ensure excellent service to the schools and network-wide alignment in decision-making and execution. Regional Managers are integral to SPARK Schools’ culture and our commitment to rigorous, engaging learning experiences for SPARK scholars.

    Reports To: Chief of Schools

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage and Coach Principals

      • Work with and through Principals and school leadership teams to drive scholar achievement and productive, positive school cultures.

      • Use a regular coaching cycle to build strong relationships with Principals that enable the leaders to meet their performance targets and model effective coaching to their own school leadership team.

      • Use research-based coaching practices in coaching leaders and work with the Chief of Schools to codify SPARK Schools coaching and management practices.

      • Use leadership tools and surveys to best assess leader strengths and areas of growth.

      • Use scholar achievement and school operations data to determine goals with each leader and monitor progress toward goals.

      • Hold Principals to academic, professional, ethical, and other performance standards.

    • Develop and Implement Professional and Leadership Development

      • Collaborate with fellow Regional Managers, the Learning Model and Human Capital Teams, and the Chief of Schools to plan and implement leadership development opportunities for current and future school leaders.

      • Collaborate with all departments in SPARK Support, in order to build and maintain relationships between school leaders and the Support office.

      • Develop Assistant Principals and School Operations Managers alongside Principals.

      • Advise Principals as they coach and develop Assistant Principals, School Operations Managers, and Trailblazers (prospective school leaders) to ensure the strength of SPARK Schools’ internal leadership pipeline.

    • Maintain a regular schedule of school visits to monitor and evaluate instruction and operations.

    • Collaborate with fellow Regional Managers to develop and implement standards, assessment, and performance metrics for instruction and operations.

    • Ensure alignment of operational and instructional practices across the network and in line with SPARK Schools’ practices, policies, and core values.

    • Serve as a primary liaison between teams in SPARK Support and school leadership, to ensure clear and distinct lines of communication and accountability.

    • Attend coaching 1:1s with the Chief of Schools and regular team meetings with the Regional Managers.

    • Participate actively in staff development opportunities as a member of the SPARK Schools team.

    • Conduct self in a professional manner at all SPARK Schools events and to all stakeholders.

    Qualifications and Criteria

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and criteria:

    • Completed Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in education or business

    • Preferred: SACE registration

    Experience

    • At least 3 years experience leading a team with evidence of high achievement.

    • At least 1 year managing other managers, whether in education or business.

    • Experience and practice with labour laws.
