    Head of Operations (Mobility)

    About the Role

    We are looking for the leader of our Sub Saharan Africa Central Operations team, you will be responsible to spearhead our operational strategy, lead the operations team.

    Africa remains an incredible opportunity -- of the additional 1.9 billion people projected between 2020 and 2050, 1.2 billion (63%) will be added in Africa, 0.7 billion in Asia and zero in the rest of the world -- We have big bold bets to deliver on as we are building the business across the 7 countries in SSA.

    The ideal candidate is deeply analytical, has an understanding of the mechanics and magic that makes an efficient operations platform, along with strong strategic vision, project management, communication and team management skills to keep multiple projects on track and lead a wide variety of stakeholders.

    As the world recovers from the pandemic we are in one of the most critical times in the history of Uber. We need strong leadership, people focus and strategic execution.

    What You'll Do:

    • Work closely with the General Manager of SSA and Regional Ops, to plan and set the vision and operations strategy for the near, mid, and long term, and iterate on plans in response to results and competitive dynamics.

    • Manage, motivate and develop the team to be their best selves at Uber and deliver impact across all core operational metrics

    • Scale and execute ops initiatives across the region, with a focus on putting processes and practices in place that drive positive impact to our customers (earners, riders and cities), and generate efficiency needed to scale our markets

    • Be able to form vision at a high level, but also not hesitant to dive into details or troubleshoot city by city where needed to identify optimization opportunities, and collaborate with the relevant teams to do so

    • Be the voice of SSA. Identify major opportunities for improvement that can be solved via technical and product solutions, and making a data-driven case to the engineering organization to build and implement them

    • Collaborate closely with relevant HQ and EMEA teams to inform their program vision and roadmaps, to ensure that solutions are being developed to address our biggest pain points.

    What You'll Need:

    • A minimum of 10 years of work experience within a management consultancy, operations, strategy, commercial, financial or analytical role

    • A minimum of 5 years experience within a senior management position

    • High energy and motivational leadership that is driven by personal influence and example with direct staff, peers, and leaders across all business functions

    • Strong track record of being a respected operational problem solver

    • Deep analytical and critical-thinking ability

    • Strong, demonstrated people management ability

    • A strong collaborator

    • Experience setting team strategy, budgets, and plans

    • Demonstrated experience interpreting and presenting data to various audiences; ability to translate quantitative findings into action plans

    • Very strong communication and organization skills

    • Balance attention to detail with swift execution - we need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well. Balancing those can be challenging, and this should be a strength

    • Willingness to travel across SSA and EMEA/HQ when required

    Communications Manager

    About the Role

    The most successful technology companies are brilliant storytellers, who can effectively engage with business, technical, consumer and all audiences alike, helping them understand the magic behind and the benefits of the products they use. Proactive storytelling empowers users and other important stakeholders to make informed decisions, drives awareness, usage of our products and builds on a good reputation.

    For that, we need strong and lasting relationships with the news outlets and journalists in every city where we operate. Also, it's about being creative and disruptive in how we tell our story, including the use of social media and working with cross-functional teams to develop campaigns that will make positive regulatory cases. We are looking for someone to support communications in South Africa, based in Johannesburg. You will report directly to our Head of Communications, Middle East and Africa. This role will involve:

    What You'll Do

    • Establishing Uber's brand and profile with the media and third parties in this region;

    • Working to tell our story--and the story of ridesharing and food delivery--in creative, inspiring ways that resonate with journalists and their audiences;

    • Developing and leading Uber's external communication to support our relationships and partnerships with local governments, third-party groups, users, and regulators;

    • Support our efforts in diversity and inclusion inside and outside the company.

    Basic Qualifications

    • A PR professional with proven experience in communications, public relations, policy, and/or journalism

    • A self-starter who can shape our storytelling to the world, requiring the ability to develop relationships, set a strategy, and execute

    • A proven track record working on communications initiatives involving corporate, policy, and crisis communications

    • Proficiency in English, both oral and written, is essential

    • Highly adaptable and calm under pressure

    • A fact-finder who loves to get into the details, who can distill complex ideas into simple, intellectually credible narratives

    • A connected communicator with a deep network of positive relationships across the media landscape that you'll use for storytelling in a compelling way

    • A team player who enjoys working with others to get stuff done
