    Senior Buyer - Kitchen (Home)

    Introduction

    • To develop and deliver a profitable, customer-led Kitchen product strategy through the execution of seasonal departmental plans. The Senior Buyer will drive product innovation and commercial success, ensuring alignment with business objectives while leading collaboration across Planning, Design, Sourcing, and other key business partners.

    • Developing and executing a customer-led seasonal strategy aligned to key business objectives and brand positioning.
    • Leading range building by partnering with Design, Sourcing and Planning to deliver trend-right, profitable assortments across channels.
    • Leveraging insights from data, trend forecasts (e.g. EDITED, WGSN), customer analytics, and market research to inform product direction.
    • Overseeing the full product lifecycle, from concept development to final sign-off ensuring product quality, pricing architecture and innovation.
    • Conducting regular trade analysis to track product performance and implement actions that drive sales, improve margin, and manage stock health.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Technical, Visual Merchandising) to ensure cohesive execution across touchpoints.
    • Supporting the sourcing strategy by engaging with suppliers, managing costing, and ensuring adherence to the merchandise cycle.
    • Mentoring and coaching Trainees & Buying Assistants, driving skills development, performance and career growth. 
    • Fostering strong internal and external relationships to influence outcomes and enhance collaboration across the value chain.

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant 3-year diploma or degree 
    • Minimum of 6–8 years’ buying experience with homeware, with at least 2 years at a senior level.
    • Experience in managing a kitchen portfolio is advantageous. 
    • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of retail. 
    • A proven track record in delivering trend-right, customer-focused ranges that drive sales and profitability.
    • Exceptional stakeholder management, leadership, and team development skills.
    • Highly analytical, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
    • Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle, sourcing, and merchandising principles.
    • Excellent understanding of market, awareness of locally and international with a creative flair to interpret forthcoming moods, trends and themes 
    • Demonstrates the ability to think strategically and formulate effective plans and strategies.
    • Knowledge of markdown and mark up pricing, visibility to drive sales, sell-through
    • Proven experience in delivering and executing business and BU strategy
    • Ability to travel both locally and internationally
    • Strong numerical and analytical skills

    Buyer I: Beauty (Brands)

    Introduction

    • To assist in delivering profitable and sustainable growth for the department that is under-pinned by the Branded Beauty and group strategy. To enable key stakeholder relationships in order to deliver balanced branded ranges through a customer led process that meets and exceeds customer expectations within the agreed KPI’s.

    Aid Customer Understanding

    • Conduct market and trend research and integrate customer understanding into agreed brand strategies and guidelines and the creation of a product tiering matrix.

    Post Season Analysis

    • In conjunction with the team, conduct post-season analysis by class/sub-class (including key performance indicators, Competitor analysis, SWOT, Pareto and Quadrant analysis) as input in the development of the Group strategy and departmental operating plan

    Departmental Operational Plan to meet customer needs and group KPIs

    • Provide input into the development of the 1-year operating plan
    • Develop product mix plan at department level taking into account:
    • Customer segmentations
    • Local and global trends
    • Competitive analysis ensuring Woolworths difference is achieved
    • Manage supplier and customer relevant brands
    • Help to build and maintain a balanced range structure and price tiering

    In Season Trading in accordance to strategic KPIs

    • Conduct weekly and monthly performance analysis and develop detailed action in collaboration with planning team to ensure departmental KPI’s are met and exceeded
    • Identify opportunities within the season to maximise profit and grow market share

    Supplier/Brand Management

    • Assist Buyer II/Senior Buyer to manage supplier/brand strategy to deliver Group KPI’s
    • Aid the execution of agreed marketing and operational support for Brands at all locations/channels
    • Onboard and Exit Brands within required timelines

    Stakeholder Management

    • Conduct regular store visits to understand product performance, assortment balance and customer experience of the range and adjust where appropriate, in conjunction with Buyer II/Senior Buyer
    • Influence and drive marketing, selling, sales and space requirements.

    Minimum requirements

    • 2-3 year’s buying experience within retailer or brand management experience within manufacturing
    • Passion for beauty trends and innovation.
    • Previous Beauty/personal care industry experience preferred
    • Computer literate with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
    • Effective communication and presentation skills
    • Continuous learning mindset with proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork
    • Retail market and industry knowledge, including promotional, pricing and marketing strategies to drive sell-through and visibility.
    • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.v

    Graphic Trend Research and Analysis

    • Conduct research, analysis, and present graphic and print trends to the Buying and Design teams.
    • Understand graphic trend shifts for the upcoming season and translate these insights into commercial proposals suitable for Woolworths.
    • Conduct store visits and competitor analysis to understand Woolworths’ customers

    Design Creation in line with Critical Path

    • Create sketches and drawings of new designs, developing placement prints, and all-over prints aligned with Buying and Design.
    • Understand print direction, fabrication, manufacturing, and print terminology to ensure the creation of viable products and cost implications.
    • Ensure Manage all creative requests assigned timeously aligned to WMC
    • Ensure consistency of designs in line with brand guidelines

    Cross-functional Collaboration

    • Collaborate across departments for seasonal campaigns

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant Graphic/ Textile Design diploma / degree
    • 2-5 years Graphic Experience in Men’s and Boys’ graphics design
    • Experience with licensed brands (advantageous). 

    Technical & Functional Competencies: 

    • Design Tools Proficiency: Advanced skills in Adobe Create Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and other relevant packages). 
    • Graphic Design Principles: A solid understanding of layout, typography, color therapy, and branding to create visually compelling designs. 
    • Digital and Print Media Design: Competency in designing for a variety of media, understanding technical nuances that affect design. decision for digital and print materials.  
    • Print Production: Knowledge of print Production processes and specifications, materials and formats. Understanding of printing techniques, fabrication and manufacturing. 
    • Trend & market research: Ability to conduct thorough trend research, globally and locally using various platforms and sources to gather inspiration and develop design concepts that align with current and future customer demands. 
    • Good communication skills: to accurately convey your concepts.
