    LFI Specialist

     

    Job Description

    • The Learning from Incidents Specialist will require a comprehensive cross functional understanding of the ORM process and should be familiar with Safety, Health, Environmental, Social, Reputational, Legal and Regulatory and Financial consequences associated with the Learning from Incidents process.
    • As the Learning from Incidents Specialist at Venetia Mine, your key focus will be to ensure that the Anglo American Learning from Incidents process is well imbedded in the everyday operations of the Mine. You will be required to coach and provide expert advice in conducting comprehensive investigations of incidents, non-conformances, grievances as well as hazards and sharing information within as well as across sites.

    Your role will include but not limited to:

    Safety, Health, Environment, Legal and Regulatory, Social, Reputational and Financial

    • Ensure consistent application of ORM principles in all site interactions within and beyond site boundaries

    Performance and Delivery

    • Conduct LFI related coaching for safety professionals and line operators on appropriate potential corrective actions to take arising from an investigation
    • Advise the line on incident investigation process, including how to record incidents and conduct thorough investigation
    • Identify which actions from (repeat) incidents and HPIs/LTIs should be implemented at other sections within the mine and coordinate the allocation of these actions
    • Provide specialist, technical, or legal input into the investigation report, including but not limited to analysing incident data on an ad-hoc basis

    • Support compliance with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements
    • Ensure compliance with Anglo American requirements
    • Selectively Support investigation of high-severity and high-potential incidents (safety, health, environmental and social)

    Qualifications

    Qualifications required:

    • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as science, engineering, or other related careers plus a formal qualification in Safety combined with practical safety experience of at least 3 to 5 years;

    Experience required:

    • Detailed knowledge of Operational Risk Management as well as a thorough understanding of operations
    • Demonstrated experience in an incident investigation position within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing with broader stakeholders
    • Demonstrated experience working in an incident investigation position at a project, operation or BU level in mining or Oil and Gas Industry
    • Track record of interfacing with and influencing colleagues at all levels and coordinating disciplines relevant to incident investigation
    • An understanding of the operational aspects associated with mining operations
    • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values

    Senior Construction Manager – Storm Water Management Programme

    • The Senior Construction Manager will report directly to Project Engineer – Integrated Water Management who oversees and managers the Venetia Storm Water Management Project and the Integrated Water Programme of Projects.
    • Responsible to site management for the effective operation, quality control and assurance of the execution work packages for construction under the Venetia Storm Water Management Project and Venetia Water Programme. The Position is to interface with the feasibility study development work packages to maintain an integrated resourced execution package that will require to be managed. The Senior Construction Manager will be responsible to manage the daily activity and planning of execution work packages and resources on multiple sites. Further the role is key to maintain and interface with operational activities, requirements and planning requirements that could be effected by the Storm Water Management Programme or projects.

    KEY RESULT AREAS:

    • To Maintain and manage the site requirements and criteria stipulated by the Integrated Water Programmes Manager and Venetia Storm Water Project Project Manager.

    Coordination of all the activities within the current execution packages including:

    • Managing the Owners team established for the portfolio, both Commercial and Technical (External Service Providers).
    • Management and Oversite of appointed contractors, to further govern contractors to Venetia Mine Requirements and Standards on all disciples, ie Engineering, Security, Safety etc.
    • Consolidate and Report Monthly to the Project Manager and Integrated Programme Manager on all allocated work packages.
    • Plan and resource site requirements
    • Procurement packages to be motivated and driven timeously and requirements to be reported to relevant Project Managers under work packages timeously.
    • Manage and report on Construction works as designed and authorized by the Operation, other service providers and various other mine functions referring to and interface requirements.
    • The role will actively cover both storm water management projects and integrated water programme projects in execution phase.
    • Schedule and resource all in-house activities managed by Owners team will be required to be overseen and reported on to the Programme Manager and relevant Departments, including Commissioning, Operational Readiness and project hand over requirements
    • To Senior Construction Manager will have allocated planning resources, however will be responsible to manage and maintain the schedule against contractual key dates and deliverables.

    Daily controls, facilitate meetings & Liaison between Owners team, contractors and the Venetia Mine Operational departments.

    • Liaison with the mining, surveyor and planning departments monthly to maintain alignment with Required Venetia Mine Departments.
    • Track performance of contractors, against forecasting and business plan. This is critical and the Senior Construction Manager will be required to interface on forecast updates and business planning to maintain and manage project commitments within the business planning cycles. It will remain the Project Manager and Programme Managers Responsibility to develop and issue, however the Senior Construction Manager will be required to forecast planning against work package capabilities and expectations understanding the onsite environments.
    • Assist with Civil Engineering inspections on site and any concerns raised by a Venetia Mine Department will be facilitated and closed out by the Senior Construction Manager.
    • The Role will mainly be resourced by external resources and the role will be required to forecast on man hour requirements and resource loading subject to site conditions and workloads to work effectively.
    • Onboarding of contractors and the management there of will be managed by the role and reported on monthly.
    • Chair meetings and take minutes where required.
    • Manage audits and facilitate site internal and external audit requirements that are within the Integrated Water Management Portfolio.

    Act in a spirit of mutual trust and co-operations

    • Assist in evaluation of Compensation Events.
    • Performs programme management between all work packages, further facilitating independencies and schedule management between project planners and contractor management teams.
    • Assist with evaluating month payment applications from the contractor.
    • Use and encourage the Contractor to use the early warning procedure to identify and manage risk. Identify, structure and facilitate Risk reduction meetings.
    • Facilitating the establishing of technical and Progress meetings and compiling of minutes of these meetings.
    • Responsible to drive construction activities and identify opportunities in terms of financial, scope, schedule and time.
    • Assist in resolving Technical Queries from the contractor with the design engineer or design support office and/or Venetia Mine Drafting Department.

    Team Integration to co-ordinate activities between the different role players and stakeholders for inter-related activities.

    • Critical departments at Venetia mine need to be managed in terms of plant, people and safety, in terms of S&SD, Engineer, Corporate Affairs, Human Relations Department etc.
    • Responsible for quality of the construction works, commissioning and management thereof.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)

    • Recognised Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or related
    • Minimum of 10 years project quality management experience, specifically in a mining environment.
    • Registered with a professional body in Civil Engineering and/or Construction Management advantageous.
    • Experience in Managing sites with P6 and MS Projects.
    • Experience in Mineral Residual Facilities and the water management thereof.

    SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES:

    • Good Communication Skills at all levels
    • Understanding of heavy industry operational requirements
    • Understand and high competency level of De Beers/Anglo American Site Safety requirements and standards.
    • Understanding and Experience in Venetia Mine Contract Requirements, NEC 3 (Beneficial) and FIDIC Contractual understanding.
    • Assertive and proactive planning skills.
    • Financial Forecast planning interfacing with market related construction production rates and abilities.
    • Ability to facilitate and identify skills development opportunities in line with Venetia Mine Social Development Plan, Building Forever and Strategic Procurement requirements.
    • Teamwork
    • Ability to evaluate statistics, recognize positive and negative trends proactively and recommend actions for improvement and schedule in risk mitigation strategies.
    • Knowledge of engineering and mining standards and specifications at Venetia Mine and Anglo American requirements.
    • Ability to manage Multi-Disiplined Construction Management Team units across the execution status projects within the Integrated Programme of projects.
    • Experience in managing safety requirements and adherence on all construction sites including carrying a legal
