    SHEQ Practitioner

    Job Description

    • To develop effective SHEQ risk management and drive continuous improvement towards Zero Harm.
    • To execute Group and business SHEQ strategy and drive commitment to Responsible Care principles.
    • To provide assurance on SHEQ compliance
    • To enable SHEQ competencies within AECI Plant Health and distribution networks (Depots).

    Required outputs: Functional

    • Ensure that production personnel, contractors, drivers and site visitors receive SHE induction before entering production areas.
    • Monitor the implementation of safe work procedures, maintain and update all relevant SHEQ related documentation and records.
    • Ensure firefighting equipment, safety and emergency response equipment are serviced and inspected within the required timeframes.
    • Carry out the monitoring and measurement of SHEQ statistics (man-hours, electricity usage, incidents, near misses, gas usage, how many audits done, how many non-conformances etc.).
    • Assist in development and implementation of emergency response procedures and evacuation plans on site and offices.
    • Ensure that emergency plans are communicated to staff and visitors.
    • Review data and provide feedback on Contractor SHEQ files.
    • Facilitate SHEQ Risk Assessments (RA’s)
    • Develop and implement SHEQ controls.
    • Conduct SHEQ incident investigations, root cause analysis and facilitation of learning
    • Maintain SHEQ Management systems (e.g. ISO, PSM, CAIA, etc.)
    • Ensure effectiveness of SHEQ Management Systems (e.g. ISO9001; ISO 14001; ISO 45001; PSM, etc.)
    • Develop SHEQ training material and Facilitation of SHEQ training
    • Co-ordinate internal and external audits and inspections.
    • Co-ordination of annual medicals and compliance to COID
    • Monitor compliance to SHEQ legal requirements (including permits and legislation)
    • Ensure effective management of the SHEQ budget
    • Ensure contractor files are kept updated as per the sites SHE specification
    • Ensure the Management of Change process is effectively managed and records maintained.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Grade 12 with post matric qualification (Safety, Environmental, Engineering or equivalent).
    • A Management/Supervisory qualification would be advantageous.
    • Process safety knowledge advantageous
    • Requires ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 qualification with auditing
    • Must possess 5-8 years working experience in a Chemical Operating environment.
    • Previous experience in the agrochemical industry would be advantageous.
    • Requires demonstrated Risk Management Knowledge and Skills
    • Must possess influencing and coaching skills
    • Must be able to analyse and interpret data/analyses and make recommendations.
    • Must possess good communication (verbal and written), engagement, planning, organisational, presentation, report writing and inter personal skills.
    • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to interface successfully at multiple organisational levels.
    • Must be computer literate MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint and Outlook)
    • Working knowledge of Syspro is a prerequisite.
    • Must be able to work independently as well as within a team, use own initiative and be deadline driven.
    • Must possess the ability to solve problems systematically
    • Must possess strong supervisory skills
    • Must have a sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulations.
    • Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license, have own reliable transport and be medically fit to drive.
    • Previous experience in investigation and root cause analysis is a prerequisite.

    Maintenance Fitter

    Job Description

    • Responsible for ensuring that plant and production equipment is maintained to required standards.
    • Attend to day-to-day breakdowns as per job cards.
    • Plan and carry out preventative maintenance of plant equipment.
    • Mentorship of apprentices
    • Carry out any other related mechanical jobs as required and requested by the team

    Required outputs: functional

    General Functions:

    • Ensure cost effective maintenance, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
    • Identify critical spares and tools and ensure upkeep
    • Identify consumable needs and upkeep of consumable store
    • Participate in plant risk assessment and SHEQ initiatives
    • Issue of maintenance clearance certificates and ensure work is carried out to AECI standards.

    Installations:

    • Installation of mechanical processing equipment (i.e. pumps, pipes, mechanical structures, agitators, etc).
    • Day-to-day plant equipment preventative and breakdown maintenance.
    • Fabrication of steel and piping. Performing ARC, TIG and other types of welding methods depending on the project.
    • Pipe fitting and troubleshooting. Must also be able to come up with concepts for improvement where required.
    • Accurately complete all job cards and recordkeeping.
    • Troubleshooting of processing plant, effluent plant, agitators, pumps and forklift.
    • Occasional planning and installation for new project.

    Maintenance:

    • Preventative maintenance planning and execution
    • Carry out breakdown maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.
    • Accurate record keeping of all maintenance work done
    • Conduct general housekeeping in the workshop.
    • On occasion required to carry out miscellaneous legal ad hoc tasks for which the incumbent is competent as instructed by the Team Leader.
    • Required to adhere to all company and work site safety rules and regulations.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Tertiary:

    • Minimum education Grade 12 with post matric qualification of NQF Level 3 or more.
    • Valid trade test certificate for Mechanical Fitted (Red Seal).
    • Welding certificate advantageous.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant experience as a Fitter
    • Prior work experience in the Production, Workshop, Plant, Maintenance, Mechanical as well as Chemical environment with a good understanding in operating equipment.

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Confidence in ability to weld effectively and efficiently, namely ARC welding, Argon welding and TIG welding.
    • Knowledge of engineering science and technology. Good mechanical fitting skills.
    • Strong ability to do pump alignment.
    • Basic understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
    • Profound knowledge of and ability to use hand held tools and tools of the trade.
    • Awareness of MerSETA apprenticeship requirements.
    • Basic knowledge of the OHS Act.
    • Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including adherence to safety.
    • Computer literary in MS Office (Word/Excel)
    • Ability to successfully mentor apprentices.
    • Expert in the regulation codes to self-inspect incumbent’s work and ensure that everything is up to standard.
    • Must be able to report to the Maintenance Team Leader

    Site Operations Manager

    Job Description

    • Provide operational leadership for Plant Health’s Somerset West site.
    • Ensure excellence in productivity, quality, maintenance and overall operational performance in line with world-class manufacturing practices.
    • Continuously analyse, improve and document operational systems and processes.
    • Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams across production, engineering, maintenance, SHEQ and support services, with a strong emphasis on compliance, contamination control and asset care

    Security and contractor oversight:

    • Manage site security and ensure contractors comply with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

    Production:

    • Ensure safe and efficient production aligned with customer requirements.
    • Champion contamination control practices.
    • Maintain high standards of sanitation and cleanroom management.
    • Drive OEE improvements, yield optimisation, and downtime reduction.

    Maintenance & Engineering:

    • Lead a proactive, world-class maintenance program that ensures maximum equipment availability and asset longevity
    • Implement and manage preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance strategies.
    • Ensure maintenance activities are fully aligned with cleanroom processes and practices.
    • Drive continuous reliability improvements.
    • Manage maintenance and CAPEX budgets and planning
    • Manage commissioning of projects or plant modifications

    SHEQ and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Lead implementation and adherence to SHEQ policies and applicable legislation (e.g. OHSAct, NEMA, transportation etc.)
    • Implement and drive Zero harm strategy and safety awareness programmes to strive for Zero Harm to people, environment and assets.
    • Manage and ensure that employees are aware of and are well trained for emergency situations that may arise on site.
    • Actively participate in internal and external audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis etc.
    • Ensure timeous close-out of actions emanating from non-conformances.

    Financial Management:

    • Prepare and manage site operational budgets (OPEX and CAPEX) to achieve financial objectives.
    • Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or compliance.
    • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to track progress against operational goals.

    People & Team Leadership

    • Lead a multidisciplinary team, including Team Leaders and Specialists across production, quality, engineering and support services.
    • Ensure structured training and development of the team.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and operational discipline.
    • Foster cross-functional alignment and teamwork across departments

    Projects:

    • Lead CAPEX projects, including but not limited to new equipment installations, utilities upgrades and plant modifications.
    • Ensure effective commissioning, validation, and SOP alignment for all new assets.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum education Grade 12 with Maths and Science
    • Tertiary - Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent(essential); Post graduate diploma in Management/Leadership advantageous

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification hands on experience in a “clean” environment e.g. biological site, pharmaceutical, dairy, etc.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a managerial role.
    • Possess sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and in-depth knowledge of NEMA, transport regulations and all other relevant Acts and associated regulations.
    • Knowledge of agrochemical production and products related to the agricultural chemical industry advantageous.
    • Experienced in Union engagement
    • Technically adept with broad engineering and maintenance knowledge
    • Proficiency in MS Office - preferably at the intermediate level.
    • Working knowledge of Syspro
    • Broad knowledge of Security controls and systems
    • Ability to operate in a multi-disciplinary environment
    • Knowledge of SHEQ Management Systems e.g. ISO requirements/standards essential
