    Mechanical Artisan-Fitter

    Job Description:

    • As the Mechanical Fitter, the incumbent will be responsible to carry out repairs, inspections and service maintenance work on mechanical equipment.   
    • This role reports into the Technical Operations Workshop Department

    Your role will include:

    Maintenance & Execution Effectiveness

    • Perform trade related maintenance and repair of industrial equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements and good workmanship.
    • Make use and operate all types of trade related equipment in accordance with Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Continuously monitor and report equipment failure, efficiencies to improve trade specific equipment and systems.
    • Use, read and interpret all trade related drawing to execute mechanical and hydraulic fitment work according to organizational procedure.
    • Participate in the Quality management process, record all changes and provide feedback according to departmental procedure.
    • Manufacture trade specific items were required according to drawings.
    • Facilitate and lead teamwork to achieve targets for related maintenance.
    • Commissioning of equipment
    • Make use of job cards for equipment and records necessary feedback.

    Effective knowledge transfer and improvement of own value adding capability

    • Train, guides, informs and generally counsels in matters of technical knowledge and trade skills, any learners or subordinate allocated to him.
    • Develop self and career through setting and achieving personal career goals.

    Stakeholder Effectiveness & Client Relationships

    • Develop and maintain sound working relationships with contractors and service providers to achieve objectives.
    • Provide positive motivation to all fellow team members to ensure an on-going positive wok environment at all times.
    • Builds relationship across the De Beers Pipeline by sharing appropriate business information and knowledge.

    Qualifications:

    • MERSETA Trade Test Certificate (or equivalent) with appropriate 3-year apprenticeship in one of the following: Mechanical Fitter or Diesel Fitter or, Turner or, Millwright.

    Port Facility Security Officer

    Job Description:

    • The Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) will be responsible to manage and co-ordinate the activities of the Security function for UPSTREAM TECHNOLOGY Inports & Paarden Eiland Complex to ensure maximum protection of product, people, assets, information and reputation at the lowest cost and in accordance with the Upstream Technology’s Security and organizational objectives.
    • This role reports into the Senior Manager Security. Risk & Facilities

    Your role responsibilities as a PFSO include:

    • The PFSO will fulfil the duties and responsibilities imposed by Chapter X 1-2 of the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) Part A par 17
    • Ensuring the development and maintenance of the port facility security plan;
    • Implementing and exercising the port facility security plan
    • Security & Safety Risk Management
    • Managing security contracts to maximize operational financial performance and to ensure that the supplier comply with the contract and meet the goals of the contract.
    • Preliminary Security Investigations
    • Maintaining and optimization security systems and technology
    • Assist in compiling the security budget by providing information based on operational security and organizational requirements.
    • Capture, centralize and manage information on CiMMs to do analysis, identify trends and risks.
    • Sustain security effectiveness through the development and implementation of SOP’s and Group Security Standards.
    • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders resulting in improved business planning and performance.

    Qualifications:

    Formal qualifications:

    • Minimum of National Diploma in Security Risk Management or Diploma in Criminology or NQF 6 equivalent.
    • Registered in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulation Act, 56 of 2001, A Grade Advantageous
    • Qualified Company Security Officer (CSO), Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) and Ship Security Officer (SSO) Advantageous
    • Minimum five (5) years’ security management experience working in a maritime / mining / construction / security environment.
    • Proven experience of Security Risk Management.
    • Proven security investigations background.
    • Proven experience of contract management and project management.
    • Proven experience of report writing and analysis.
    • Proven knowledge of Security Technical Systems.
    • Knowledge of mining and metallurgical diamond recovery processes would be an advantage

    Principal: Technical Strategy & Engineering

    Job Description:

    This role reports into the Head of De Beers Technology

    • The purpose of the role is to undertake specialist strategic projects and activities to inform and advance the future value of the client operations; through leading a diamond Future Smart strategy through system design, simulation and implementation to achieve the required transformation of the De Beers Group Mines to horizon 3 technology.   In addition to provide specialist marine mining and recovery advice and ensure operational excellence within Upstream Technology.  

    Your role will include:

    Financial

    • Ensure adherence to financial procedures, and accountability in procurement and financial dealings

    Performance and Delivery

    • Interpret the business strategy and challenges; undertake specialist strategic studies, projects and activities to develop options to inform and advance the future value of the client operations.
    • Collaborate with the mining operations in the development of their technology pathways to form a viable technology pathway for the Group.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to provide specialist marine mining, upstream mining operations, recovery advice, and technology support. (in the spheres of research & development, innovation, engineering, projects, marine recovery operations, and new business).

    Compliance

    • Provide technical consulting services for the operation on engineering and marine specialist related matters to minimise possible engineering and operational risks.
    • Adhere and promote applicable legislation, company safety, security and environmental policies, procedures, goals and objectives.

    Diamond Future Smart

    • Lead the Diamond Future Smart workstream for the upstream parts of the Group.
    • Provides advisory information w.r.t technical challenges required to achieve a Diamond Future Smart operation.
    • Conceptualise solutions and execute initiatives to solve internal Technology solutions  to solve problems for our clients.

    Stakeholders

    • Major service providers relevant to the execution of internal Technology support process
    • Establishing working relationships with suppliers, academic institutes, and consultants.
    • De Beers Group Mining Operations Management Teams

    Qualifications:

    Formal qualifications:

    • Honours Degree in Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Mining, Nautical Architecture or any equivalent
    • Master’s in Engineering or MBA would be advantageous

    Additional requirements:

    • Proven track record and ability to successfully engage and influence senior stakeholders
    • Experience at senior management level 5-7yrs
    • Experience in innovation and technology development +10yrs

    Role specific knowledge:

    • Experience in simulation/CAE/CAD including expert use of MS Excel for simulation and modelling where appropriate.
    • Experience in assimilating knowledge gained into appropriate formats and databases, and dissemination of technology through technical reports and presentations
