Qualifications and Experience:

• Must be fluent and proficient in Afrikaans
• Must be fluent and proficient in Afrikaans – read, write and speak
• Two to three+ years editorial experience
• A degree in preferably journalism, media studies or any relevant tertiary degree.
• Knowledge of the press code and journalistic values
• Based in Cape Town
• Knowledge of social media platforms and their business features, including Meta-products and TikTok
• Experience with social media management tools like Brandwatch (previously Falcon IO), Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.
• Have basic video, graphics, and photo editing skills.
• Have experience with building newsletters, preferably with the Braze-platform

The journalist should have an existing and extensive contact network. The suitable candidate will have the ability to get the story behind the story and gather unique information that is not available elsewhere. The journalist should have a good understanding of digital journalism, be able to record video and take photos. The suitable candidate will be able to work quickly and under pressure. The successful candidate must also be willing to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and public holidays from time to time.

Job outputs:

• As a Netwerk24 home editor, you are expected to publish copy quickly and flawlessly on the website, by optimally enriching stories.
• Use the information from data tools to optimally present a variety of stories.
• Keep readers updated on major stories and breaking news by sending “push notifications”.
• Analyse site traffic and continuously try to improve and increase traffic by enhancing the offering on the homepage.
• Communicate with different departments and respond quickly, efficiently, and timely to requests and messages on various communication platforms.
• As a home editor, you are also expected to manage on-duty journalists over weekends and sometimes in the evenings. This requires you to stay up to date with breaking news and quickly write it yourself or assign it to journalists, and then publish the story factually correct and flawlessly online.
• You may also be expected to translate stories yourself and/or compile them from different sources.
• You are expected to stay abreast of and adhere to the style guide and utilise technology and multimedia.

What you'll do:

• General upkeep of the buildings electrical installations, systems and equipment.
• Inspections, recordings and corrections on electrics.
• Adhering to safety performance standards, protocols and lock out procedures.

• Writes, produces and distributes newsletters across News24’s various verticals.
• Works with marketing to assist with copywriting for campaigns.
• Works with the social media team to write copy to better promote our best work and engage our target audience on these platforms.
• Help with the moderation of comments and enhance the engagement experience for News24 readers.
• Help build and maintain special project sites on tools such as Shorthand alongside the audience engagement editor.
• Willingness to work irregular hours – and independently - over weekends and public holidays where required.
