    Research, Applications and Development(RAD) Manager

    Requirements

    The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and experience: 

    • Minimum of PhD qualification in Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Earth Sciences, Computer Science or related fields.  
    • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a senior role in Earth Observation applications, space intelligence tools development, or geospatial research. 
    • Demonstrated three (3) years of experience in a management role. 
    • Evidence of domain understanding through remote sensing scientific publications in journals and conference proceedings.  
    • Ability to interact with a network of senior stakeholders and clients. 
    • Experience in the remote sensing processing chains.  
    • Insight into the requirements of the EO Space Intelligence environment. 
    • Understanding of business management processes.  
    • Due to the specialised and technical nature of the environment as well as the need for good leadership, the position requires a scarce combination of remote sensing, GIS, research and leadership/management skills. 

    Key performance areas will include, but are not limited to: 

    • Lead the development of EO research and intelligence tools. 
    • Oversee the creation of AI-powered EO applications for climate monitoring, agriculture, and disaster response. 
    • Manage multiple EO projects, ensuring research outputs translate into real-world applications. 
    • Establish and maintain partnerships with government, industry, and international institutions. 
    • Provide mentorship, training, and capacity-building initiatives. 
    • Oversee financial and procurement management for EO projects.

    Principal Scientist

    Requirements

    The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and experience: 

    • Minimum of PhD qualification in Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Earth Sciences, Computer Science or related fields.  
    • At least five (5) years of experience in Earth Observation applications, space intelligence tools development, or geospatial research.  
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a senior scientist role in Earth Observation.  
    • Proven ability to supervise or lead multidisciplinary scientific teams. 
    • Evidence of domain understanding through remote sensing scientific publications in journals and conference proceedings.  
    • Ability to interact with a network of senior stakeholders and clients. 
    • Experience in the remote sensing processing supply chains.  
    • Insight into requirements of the EO Space Intelligence environment. 
    • Understanding of business management processes. 

    Key performance areas will include, but are not limited to: 

    • Lead and guide teams in EO research and applications. 
    • Develop innovative EO methodologies, tools, and frameworks. 
    • Publish high-impact research and technical reports. 
    • Oversee multiple EO projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to international standards. 
    • Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and academic institutions. 
    • Mentor postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

    Space Education Specialist(Re-Advertisement)

    Requirements

    The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and experience: 

    • An NQF level 8 qualification in Space Science, Astronomy, Education, Science Communication, or a related field. 
    • A Master’s degree is an advantage.  
    • A valid driver’s licence. 
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a trainer/ educator in a scientific space institution.  
    • Demonstrated experience leading a diverse team.  
    • Demonstrated experience in educational program development and delivery, particularly in space science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  
    • Knowledge of space science concepts and the ability to communicate them effectively to diverse audiences.  
    • Excellent organisational and project management skills.  
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. 
    • Proficiency in using digital tools and social media for educational purposes.  
    • Background in creating multimedia educational content.  
    • Creative and innovative thinking with strong problem-solving skills.  
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
    • Experience working with diverse communities and underrepresented groups in STEM.  
    • Familiarity with informal education settings such as planetariums, science centres, or museums.  

    Working conditions:

    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for events and programs. 
    • The role requires travel to various locations for outreach events and programs.  
    • Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment for events and activities.

    • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, marketing, proposal writing and contract negotiations. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and customer relationship management (CRM) software.  
    • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. 
    • Strategic thinking with the ability to identify and leverage market opportunities.  
    • Proficiency in proposal and business case development, costing models, and contract management.  
    • Familiarity with EO technologies and applications is an advantage. 

    Key performance areas will include, but are not limited to: 

    • Develop and implement a business development strategy for EO services.
    • Identify new revenue opportunities in public and private sectors. 
    • Build relationships with stakeholders, including government departments and industry leaders. 
    • Oversee marketing strategies, proposal development, and funding acquisition. 
    • Promote SANSA’s EO capabilities at conferences and industry events.
