    Intermediate/Senior Accountant (Cape Town CBD)

    BDO Cape Town is looking for a senior accountant to work in the Business Services Outsourcing Department
    Job specifications:

    • Responsibility for looking after the accounting and VAT of clients located in Switzerland, UK and Cayman Islands
    • Good understanding of Fund accounting and the accounting treatments for fund accounts
    • Experience in fund accounting and has a passion in preparing accounting records from source to trial balance
    • Preparation of annual accounts and prepping final trial balances ready for preparing financial statements
    • Preparation and finalization of financial statements including drawing up the relevant tax computations and the necessary disclosures and presentations in terms of International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) and IFRS for SMEs
    • Managing the Treasury process for multiple clients according to their cash flow requirement of the business
    • Initiator and driver of the financial function for clients, not only from a financial reporting perspective, but also from an operational perspective ensuring that relevant duties are designed, designated and carried out to ensure the financial function is running smoothly in the clients’ business,
    • Being a trusted advisor and taking ownership of the responsibilities that come with being an Outsourced financial manager to clients
    • Ability to interface with clients and efficient communication skills
    • Self-disciplined and requires no to little guidance in executing tasks and assignments that come with looking after an international client portfolio
    • Efficient time management skills
    • Works according to a budget and monitors own time spent to ensure that tasks & deadlines are met within the parameters of the budget
    • Collaborating with auditors and assisting with the audit process from an accounting perspective
    • Ability to identify more efficient processes in the accounting process. Very good business acumen to identify and bring on more simpler processes that are more efficient to the client and their business

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Detailed knowledge of Caseware working papers

    Senior IS Auditor (JHB Illovo)

    Description

    • The IS Auditor is responsible to the IS Audit Manager for carrying out the work allocated to them, for keeping the Junior IS Audit Manager / IS Audit Manager informed of progress and of any problems or difficulties with that work and for ensuring that work is documented and concluded in accordance with the Firms policies and procedures. Keeping accurate time records and performs work allocated with integrity & ethics.

    The IS Auditor will be responsible for the following key activities to achieve the main objectives:

    • Performs those sections of the Audit as agreed with the Senior / Manager / Director
    • Be responsible for the security of the audit files and working papers and ensure they are safely stored.
    • Always ensure that audit working papers are clear, concise and explain all issues clearly.
    • Perform a self-review of working papers before submitting them for review to Senior/ Manager. Ensure conclusions make sense and that the working papers are logical.
    • Gives feedback to managers at audit debriefs or when required to do so, escalates problems to managers promptly.
    • Ensures that performance and documentation of work comply with the ITCE’s methodology through progressive/continuous review of work papers.
    • Ensures sufficient, adequate, reliable, relevant and useful evidence is placed on file to facilitate effective review.
    • Ensures that all work papers are complete, consistent, referenced and signed off, and the correct templates have been used.                                                
    • Judges the sensitivity of both client and management information and treats it appropriately

    Requirements:

    • B.Com Accounting, Informatics, Computer Science or relevant degree
    • Perform IS audits from planning to reporting.Supervised and self-review of documentation before submission.
    • Assist with the preparation of client deliverables.
    • Minimum 2 years working experience of Internal - / IT -/ External Audit

    Manager – Financial Services Advisory (Gauteng)

    BDO South Africa has vacancies for Managers to join our Financial Services Advisory Division in our Johannesburg Offices.

    The Manager manages work assignments to completion within the allocated time frame and to an appropriate standard (quality). In addition to managing client engagements, the Manager should be able to effectively mentor and coach team members, while having a strong focus on business development and internal initiatives.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    Take ownership of, and manages work assignments to completion within the allocated time frame and to an appropriate standard (quality), through:

    • proper planning before the assignment,
    • appropriate coaching during the assignment,
    • attention to quality of the deliverable and the supporting documentation, adequately completing provisions,
    • managing the WIP appropriately and within budget, where applicable, billing the engagement, and
    • closing the engagement.
    • Is an effective project manager
    • Track any delays and overruns and raises these at the relevant partner catch-ups and client meetings. Get immediate and timely agreement from the client to overruns.
    • Reviews written documents to ensure that they are organised, well-written, referenced and easy to follow.
    • Establish effective working relationships directly with key clients and broader BDO stakeholders.
    • Bring industry insights and recommendations to the client during client discussions. Ensures value-added delivery to the client driving sustainability of client relationship and work allocation
    • Coordinate and lead meetings with the key client stakeholders and internal senior stakeholders in the absence of the partner.
    • Assess and manage project risks, processes, and controls.
    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the client’s processes and methodologies, including the reviews of process flows.
    • Develops a more strategic view of the business and participates in strategic initiatives through the coaching of the partners.
    • Able to lead initiatives from commencement to conclusion with minimal coaching and mentoring. Understands when to request input or assistance.
    • Takes on operational role/s within the business, in addition to allocated client assignments
    • Participate in proposal development as and when required

    Qualifications:

    • Bcom Internal Audit    
    • Bcom Information Systems/Informatics    
    • Bsc Computer Science    
    • CISA, CA(SA) or CRISC

    Experience and Knowledge:

    • 5 to 6 years of IT Audit Experience
    • Knowledge of General IT Controls, Application Controls, Data Analytics, ISAE 3402 reviews, Business process analysis
