    Bulletin Writer / Reader (Audio / Radio & Ndebele)

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • To deliver incisive Ndebele public service Audio News Bulletins and content in accordance with SABC News’ editorial objectives and mandate.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Write and read (present) Ndebele Audio News content, as assigned.
    • Write, voice, translate, cut soundbites, as well as package stories when required.
    • Deliver news bulletins within set durations and on time.
    • Ensure that stories are newsworthy, compelling, accurate, balanced and fair.
    • Adhere to the designated language requirements and ensure that language usage is accurate and formal.
    • Interpret and analyse the undercurrents in and subtexts of stories.
    • Conduct field, archival and other research, as required.
    • Conduct interviews and do Q&As, when required.
    • Engage professionally with the target audience to promote and uphold SABC News’ integrity and to enhance News and Current Affairs, including on social media.
    • Use multimedia platforms to promote Audio News content and ensure adherence to digital news / media guidelines.
    • Support team members and colleagues.
    • Establish and maintain news networks and contacts.
    • Adhere to the South Africa’s Constitution, all laws, ICASA’s licence conditions and regulations, the BCCSA and Press Council codes and rulings, the SABC Editorial Policies, News Style-Guide and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Proficient and fluent in Ndebele (read, write, speak and translate)
    • National Diploma / Degree in Journalism or Media Studies or equivalent qualifications (NQF 6)
    • 4 years’ proven experience in the news environment
    • Excellent news sense and attention to detail
    • Exceptional writing, reading / presenting and translation skills
    • Good and clear broadcast voice
    • Good understanding and use of social media as a journalistic tool
    • Staying abreast of news and current affairs and other related developments
    • Sound understanding of current social, economic and political trends
    • Good ability to plan, organise and work in a team
    • Ability and willingness to work under pressure, including long and irregular hours
    • Good understanding of the news, media and broadcasting environments
    • Well-developed computer literacy relevant to the news, media and broadcasting environments

    Control Room Operator

    Main Purpose

    • To provide continuous and proactive monitoring of the organizational assets on CCTV surveillance.

    Key Accountabilities:

    OPERATE CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION TO MONITOR THE EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT

    • Continuously observe the CCTV monitors
    • Monitor and Control the Access to restricted and Closed areas
    • Monitor the access to the parking area
    • Watch the video monitors to ensure authorised people enter the building.
    • Communicate with various security officers to ensure the safety of staff in the building.
    • Notify the security officers of unauthorised access to premises. 

    MONITOR THE FIRE ALARM AND INTRUSION SYSTEM

    • Inform the security officers to inspect the incident observed on the system
    • Communicate incident with the emergency services as per SABC’s policies and procedures
    • Observe and report fire alarm to patrol security officials
    • Observe and report intrusion system alarms to patrol security officials 

    MONITOR AND REPORT ANY IRREGULARITY

    • Monitor close circuit television and report irregularities to the Control Room Supervisor
    • Restrict and report unauthorized access into the control room
    • Screening suspicious intruders and report it to the Control Room Supervisor
    • Screening of suspicious looking parcels report it to the Control Room Supervisor

    GENERAL ADMINISTRATION AND REPORTING

    • Control and use security keys or any equipment assigned
    • Record all instructions received in the occurrence book as well as all incidents in the incident register
    • Do proper handover of status of the Control Room to the next shift
    • Record and refer all video footage playback requests to the Control Room Supervisor
    • Record and report equipment failure or malfunction equipment to the Control Room Supervisor

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 Matric.
    • 3 years’ experience/security background

    Knowledge

    • Understanding CCTV procedures
    • Understanding of privacy laws
    • Participating in performance management reports
    • Good Communication (verbal and written)
    • Creative and Imagination
    • Customer Service orientated/focused
    • Attention to detail  
    • Problem solving

    Administrator (Johannesburg)

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • To manage the News Head’s work-related activities professionally, timeously and efficiently by providing the required administrative support for the smooth and effective running of the office and newsroom

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Manage the News Head’s diary, appointments and work-related activities.
    • Do general office administration (including submission, collection and tracking of documents, office-supply orders etc)
    • Manage incoming and outgoing calls and correspondence.
    • Generate, compile and process contracts, invoices and overtime payments on deadline and assist team members with queries.
    • Collate and submit monthly leave and expenditure reports.
    • Take minutes, type documents, transcribe audiovisual recordings, prepare reports and presentations, and file.
    • Plan, organise and coordinate meetings, including venue and catering sourcing and costing.
    • Compile and maintain asset register.
    • Generate, compile and process travel business plans, source quotes and assist with business cases.
    • Arrange and confirm travel logistics (SABC Travel Office, SABC Transport / car hire, flights, accommodation and vouchers etc.).
    • Load trip S&T, advances, purchase orders, service entry sheets etc on SAP for approval.
    • Receive, prepare, distribute and file authorized documentation and electronic communication timeously, orderly and accurately.
    • Manage both the manual and electronic filing systems effectively, especially confidential and sensitive documents, to ensure quick and easy retrieval of all information – current and archival.
    • Effectively process, track and follow-up on all correspondence and documents in and out of the office.
    • Adhere to the Constitution, all broadcasting and other laws, ICASA licence conditions and regulations, the BCCSA and Press Council codes and rulings, SABC Editorial Policies, style-guide and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) etc.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • National diploma in administration or any other equivalent and relevant tertiary qualification.
    • 2-3 years’ proven experience in office administration / management and / or secretarial work, preferably in the news, media and / or broadcasting environment.
    • Computer literacy (Microsoft package, PowerPoint, Excel, the Internet & SAP etc.).
    • Understand multimedia news and current affairs.
    • Knowledge of and interest in digital and broadcast developments and trends
    • Good general knowledge.
    • Creativity and innovation.
    • Proactive and action orientated.
    • Establish and maintain good relationships.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Pay attention to detail.
    • Good planning and organising skills.
