    Senior Lecturer (Permanent) and Rotational Head of Department

    Job Purpose

    Head of Department

    • The HOD must manage the department effectively and efficiently in line with the CPUT policies and procedures specifically but not limited to (i) academic project management; (ii) research management; (iii) HR and staff management; (iv) financial management; and (v) student management.

    Senior Lecturer

    • The successful candidate will teach Analytical Chemistry modules and supervise student projects up to Postgraduate level, will contribute to curriculum development in the Department, while providing support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in teaching and learning, work integrated learning, service learning, and research.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Head of Department

    • Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
    • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years' experience as a Senior Lecturer.
    • The 5 years mentioned above must include 2 years' management experience related to the functions of a HOD (i.e academic management;curriculum development; quality assurance and accreditation processes; financial and HR management in a Department).
    • Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above

    Senior Lecturer

    • Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
    • A base qualification Chemistry or equivalent qualification
    • At least 4 years' relevant working experience, which must include two years teaching experience in Chemistry at the Higher Education level

    • Develop innovative teaching and learning methods and materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content)
    • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
    • Participate in curriculum development
    • Participate in research projects and produce DHET-accredited publications
    • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
    • Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities

    Associate Professor: Information Technology

    Job Purpose

    • The successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum development, supervision of postgraduate students, lecturing and involvement in research in the related field of Computer Science and Information Technology and running the day-to­ day affairs of Information Technology Department. The responsibilities will also include providing academic leadership in specific areas of Computer Science and Information Technology, administration and management of subject tuition and management of staff members assigned to the department/Research Projects.
    • The appointed person will also support faculty research initiatives by undertaking research that contributes to the faculty's strategic objectives. The candidate will also be responsible for raising the standard of scholarship and research in the Department of Information Technology by initiating some research projects in the field, providing mentorship for junior staff members, and supervising postgraduate students up to the doctoral level. In addition, the incumbent will still perform all the functions of academics, including teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising students, community engagement, curriculum development, academic administration, and conducting research.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    •  A relevant Doctoral Degree in Computer Science and/or Information Technology
    •  At least six (6) years of teaching experience in Higher Education
    •  A track record of successful supervision of Master's and Doctoral students to completion within the IT Domain
    •  A track record of publications in accredited journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings over the last five years

    nGAP Lecturer: Nursing Sciences

    Job Purpose

    New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) Context

    • This post is in line with the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP), which is part of the Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) - it is a national and sector response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff.
    • The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills.
    • The new generation of academics programme (nGAP), comprising one element of the SSAUF, involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics.
    • Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens.

    To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post:show interest 

    • in becoming an academic
    • be 40 years or younger
    • candidates must have a 70% pass mark for his/her Master's degree
    • show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme
    • be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme

    The purpose of this post is to support the department to fulfil its academic objectives which include teaching according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in community engagement. The successful candidate will teach in the Nursing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Master’s degree in nursing sciences or equivalent qualification, awarded with a pass mark of 70% or greater.
    • A qualification in nursing education
    • Proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse and midwife
    • Proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council as a nurse educator.
    • A qualification in a nursing clinical specialization is advantageous.
    • The candidate must be registered or prepared to register for a Doctoral degree.

    Recommendation:

    • At least one (1) year lecturing experience and/or 4 years clinical teaching experience in the nursing discipline after registration at SANC. (Preference will be given to applicants with lecturing experience)

    Job Purpose

    • Track record in integrating design and technology in buildings of medium complexity up to medium-rise height.

    • Excellent technical knowledge and experience in building design & construction in varied built environment contexts
    • Ability to conduct research and contribute to a research focus area, with an intention to pursue further qualifications
