    Qualified Welder

    Job Description

    • The qualified Welder’s primary purpose is to provide support within the Engineering division in the Boilershop as dictated by operational requirements in the form of Welding structures and maintenance thereof.

    THE FOLLOWING TASKS WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Perform general welding on structures, trailers, trucks and other equipment
    • Do positional welding where required
    • Works in conjunction with Boilermaker
    • Must be proficient in Arc, MIG ,TIG welding and Gouging.
    • Grinding material as required
    • Cutting material using cutting torch

    QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

    • Red Seal Welding certificate or equivalent qualification.
    • 2 – 3 years post qualification experience
    • Knowledge of various power tools
    • Knowledge of various hand and workshop tools is an advantage
    • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety Rules
    • Must be physically fit and not have fear of heights
    • Previous experience in a physically demanding working environment would be advantageous.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • The Group currently has a vacancy for a Cashier to join the Payments team at the Gauteng Head Office. The successful candidate will assist the Payments Department by multi-tasking in a demanding workload and highly pressurized environment. The successful candidate will report to the Payments Manager. He/she will also have to:

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum Grade 12 certificate
    • 2 years relevant experience
    • Computer literate - MS Office, internet and e-mail
    • Ability to process payments quickly and accurately
    • Knowledge of bulk cash counting machine would be beneficial
    • Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask

    • The Assistant Branch Manager focuses on assisting and supporting the Branch Manager with the planning and managing of the branch’s operations and staff. 
    • The Assistant Branch Manager, with the guidance of the Branch Manager, is responsible for leading a team to ensure that operational requirements are met. Compliance with the Second Hand Goods Act, maintaining good customer relations, and acting with integrity are crucial for this role.
    • The Assistant Branch Manager must be able to manage the branch on his / her own if necessary.

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Ensuring all operational processes and procedures are strictly followed
    • Maintain good customer relations and ensuring customer satisfaction
    • Ensuring that the scrap metal is purchased at the correct grade
    • Ensuring records are updated and reconciled accurately for all items purchased and dispatched
    • Ensuring Company policies and procedures, and health & safety regulations are adhered to

    Senior Operator (Meltshop)

    • SA Steelworks has a Senior Operator position available. The successful candidate will provide support to SA Steelworks Meltshop Department by operating various mobile machinery. Applicants will be required to complete a skills test, only candidates with an average of 70% can successfully apply for the vacancy. (SHIFT POSITION)

    Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

    • Must be able to do basic mathematical calculations to ensure correct process parameters
    • Blend the scrap mix to ensure that changes are in conformance to melting specifications.
    • Ability to operate excavator in confined spaces.
    • Monitor the charging and melting of steel to determine conformance to melting specifications
    • Operates forklift, grab and front end loader during routine performance of duties
    • Recognizes waste streams and minimizes waste generation
    • Removes billets from the production areas and ensuring proper quality checks and identification
    • Conducts inspection of assigned equipment and communicates to management any machine malfunctions.
    • Conduct daily inspection of relevant work areas and report possible failures or unsafe working conditions.
    • Effectively operate excavator to achieve set daily targets and to minimize down time.
    • Ability to analyze potential failures and communicate accordingly with possible solutions in a timeous manner
    • Continuously assess safe working practices and ensure that all incidents are recorded and addressed promptly.
    • Ensure shift handover is conducted thoroughly in the melt shop fifteen minutes before the start of each shift and ensure that all issues are reported clearly.
    • Abiding by the regulations as set out in Occupational Health and Safety Act and Company policies

    Applicants must have the following qualifying criteria:

    • Matric (Maths Compulsory)
    • Valid Excavator, Grab, FEL and Forklift license
    • Minimum of 2 years working experience in a similar environment.
    • Strong knowledge of mobile machinery.
    • Ability to detect machine discrepancies.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
    • Willingness to work overtime and SHIFTS
    • Must consistently be conscious of and compliant with Health & Safety rules and regulations
    • Good communication skills
    • In good health, physically fit
