    Mechanical Designer (4-month Contract)

    Job Description:

    This role reports into the Advanced Technology Automation Department

    Your role will include:

    • To provide CAD expertise to the R&D function in the form of conceptual, preliminary and detailed parametric 3D model designs and associated manufacturing detail drawings in accordance with De Beers Technologies standards and procedures.
    • To support the design team with the assembly of prototypes
    • Deliver detailed 3D parametric models of product/machine designs and the associated manufacturing data
    • Provide mechanical engineering expertise during the design process
    • Provide innovative, cost-effective mechanical design solutions in response to technical challenges
    • Maintain excellent world class housekeeping standards that fosters a safe working environment for all
    • Strict adherence to all internal HSE policies and procedures as well as all legal regulations/requirements.
    • Assembly and setup of prototypes
    • Responsible for technical performance of a sub-system/product
    • Executes tasks assigned by engineers and tech lead
    • Solves problems from existing knowledge or by reading up and generating new knowledge

    Qualifications:

    Formal qualifications:

    • Engineering Drawing Diploma or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

    Additional requirements:

    • 3 - 5 years product/machine design experience
    • CREO or any drawing other CAD software detailing experience
    • Computer Literacy
    • Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal)
    • Hands-on practical experience would be advantageous
    • International travel may be required
    • Police clearance is required
    • Registration as a radiation worker may be required.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    Technical

    • CAD software experience ideally in CREO with the Windchill product lifecycle management environment
    • Mechanical engineering design skills
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
    • Multi-discipline interface knowledge (specifically to electronics, electrical and C&I)
    • Knowledge of configuration management principles would be advantageous,
    • Suggest improvements on designs

    Communication

    • Able to seek clarity on requirements
    • Clear, logical presentations, reports, verbal.
    • Technical detail communications with technical peers.
    • Interact across tech functions e.g. tech dev, tech support, manufacturing

    Management

    • Making and carrying out project plans for own work.
    • Manage own time and delivery to meet project requirements.
    • Comfortable with Peer Review of work (providing and receiving).
    • Contributes to Mechanical discipline standards, strategies, processes and procedures and Community of Practice
    • Supervision / oversight of work is required

    Financial

    • Obtaining quotations.
    • Interacting with established suppliers for standard items.
    • Interacting with new suppliers to assess applicability of new items/components.

    Senior Foreman - Mechanical Central Mach

    Job Description:

    As our Senior Engineering Foreman (Mechanical) you will be required to maintain and assist in the operation of equipment and systems according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications by:

    • Over-inspecting daily activities on the plant to ensure maintenance according to organizational standards
    • Co-ordinating and monitoring equipment availability to ensure attainment of production targets
    • Communicating equipment information and changes to relevant stakeholder to minimize production delays
    • Continuously analyze equipment deficiencies and recommend and/or implement improvements and changes to maximize equipment utilization
    • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders of the production process to ensure operational optimization
    • Planning activities in accordance to production, breakdowns and maintenance schedules and allocate and source resources as required
    • Performing administrative duties to ensure record accuracy and availability, budget compliance and spares availability
    • Communicating with clients and supervisors to inform on maintenance activities performed and availability of equipment
    • Ensuring compliance to company policies and procedures and legal requirements training and development of subordinates
    • This role is in the Ore Processing, Engineering department on a Band 7 level and reporting to the Plant Engineer

    Qualifications:

    You will be required to have the following:

    • N2/N3 National Engineering Certificate (Mechanical)
    • Recognized Mechanical Trade Certificate with Red Seal
    • MHSA 2.9.2 Legal Certificate
    • Computer Literacy – MS Works Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook)
    • 5 years post-qualification experience within mining production environment managing people
    • Previous experience as engineering foreman will be advantageous
    • Foreman’s Certificate or Senior Foreman’s Certificate will be advantageous
    • Knowledge of Mine Health & Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996) as amended
    • Knowledge of the Mechanical discipline (E.g. crushers, pumps, screens and conveyors including rigging and fitting activities)

    Section Engineer - TMM Pre-Production

    Job Description:

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Driving Maintenance KPI’s of permanent employees, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure vehicle / equipment availability, reliability, and optimization.
    • Roll out TMM maintenance strategy to minimise equipment downtime and ensure availability of equipment at the right time.
    • Manage overall maintenance management performance.
    • Financial / Budget Control in terms of Mining Maintenance activities.
    • Managing of change process regarding any deviations to Maintenance activities and work scope.
    • Manage the establishment of Engineering standards, specifications, and service levels according to organizational objectives to ensure maximum operational availability.
    • Implement CI initiatives by keeping abreast of developments and introducing change in work processes where appropriate (Cost reductions and cost avoidances).
    • Ensure and Maintain Legal Compliance, Audits and Governance.

    Qualifications:

    • B Eng/BSc/BTech/National Diploma discipline, National Certificate – NTC 6 Engineering (with relevant Trade Certification) in Mechanical or Electrical
    • Completed Government Certificate of Competence, Mines and Works (GCC).
    • Completed or in the process of completing a postgraduate qualification (Honours, Masters, MDP, etc.) would be advantageous

    Required Experience:

    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Section Engineer (Legal Appointee) of which 3 years in a UG TMM environment, preferably in an operation that utilises caving and/or long hole drilling methods.
    • Must have good cognitive and analytical abilities.
    • Project management experience would be highly advantageous.
    • Experience in the in Underground Large Excavation TMM equipment and technology would be advantageous.
    • Experience managing a large contractor mining operation will be advantageous.
    • Operational readiness implementation experience will be advantageous.

    Category Manager - Indirects

    Job Description:

    Purpose of the role:

    Manage the supply of strategic Upstream Commodities and Services to the De Beers Group of Companies (GoC) to ensure

    • maximum benefit and value add, in line with the organization’s strategic needs
    • operational and contractual compliance to minimize risk to the business
    • strategic supplier relationship management

    Lead the definition and implementation of category strategies to drive

    • value delivery
    • spend/cost optimisation
    • supply risk mitigation
    • with specific emphasis on identifying and realizing opportunities to reduce costs in a sustainable manner while achieving company objectives (i.e.: local spend and HDSA spend)
    • Be responsible for creating and maintaining strategic and non-strategic contracts for the De Beers group.

    Key result Areas:

    • Establish and oversee relevant category specific Community of Practices and Monitor that supplier performance, based on contractual KPIs is updated
    • Manage contractual risks and support the Supply chain manager & operational team resolve escalated contractual issues or any escalated issues
    • Ensure effective contract execution through appropriate maintenance processes
    • Integrating client and technical requirements with business objectives and benchmarking both pricing and commodity performance of strategic commodities against industry peers
    • Rationalizing supplier base by consolidating and contracting off-contract spending

    • Lead, develop and coach a team of collaborative commercial professionals
    • Oversee and manage work planning, execution, resource balancing and team performance as well as tracking team’s adherence to planned timeframes

    Manage compliance to:

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in Commercial/Business/Engineering disciplines
    • Advanced university qualifications, preferably in business administration, commerce, or other relevant discipline (such as MBA, MCIPs) will be an advantage
    • Extensive experience in Supply Chain or Mining/Plant/ Maintenance environment or Downstream environments

    Experience

    • 5–10-year relevant sourcing and category management experience.
    • 5–10-year experience in both Direct and Indirect category management and sourcing is required.
    • Proven track record of extensive practical experience in relevant field
    • Good technical knowledge across the SC value chain
    • Safety & sustainability as it relates to Supply Chain & Inclusive Procurement
    • Strong commercial, negotiation and deal-making, business case development, investment appraisal
