    Smart Meter Deployment and Installation Programme/Project Manager

    With guidance from partners, directors and senior managers, you'll work on projects and programmes for Ernst & Young locally and globally in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Botswana and Cape Town as an Infrastructure Program or Project Manager for Smart Meter Deployment and Installations of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Smart Metering Solution Projects or Programmes.

    The ideal candidate will manage a Project or Portfolio of Projects from inception/idea generation until commissioning and handover. They will be accountable for Schedule, Quality, Safety and Cost. The role involves extensive interaction with Clients, Engineering Teams, Construction Teams, Sub-contractors, Construction labour and other members of cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of projects to clients. They will plan and direct schedules and monitor budget/spending.

    In line with Ernst & Young's commitment to quality, you'll consistently drive programmes and projects to completion and confirm that work is of a high quality. Your role in leading teams - or parts of teams - on engagements will depend on the size of engagement. When working on engagements, you'll report to higher levels of management, who will expect you to anticipate and identify risks, and escalate any issues as appropriate. As an influential member of the team, you'll help to create a positive learning culture, coach and counsel junior team members and help them to develop.

    Accommodation to be supplied by EY and Economy class flights back to South Africa every 6 weeks if travel overseas outside South Africa is required.

    Technical skills requirements

    • Smart Meter Deployment and Installation Programme/Project Manager with a deep understanding in deploying and managing Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Smart Metering Solution programmes and projects. 2 - 4 years’ experience
    • Deep knowledge within the water or power or energy management and utilities sectors.
    • PMP qualification or equivalent is advantageous
    • Minimum of 10 years’ working experience
    • Minimum 6 years' managing programmes and projects using PMBOK/PRINCE2 or equivalent methodologies;
    • 2 - 4 years’ experience in EPC/EPCM Environment as a Project Manager.
    • Demonstrated track record with a large consulting organization
    • Strong academic record including a bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical or mechanical or water resources engineering. (B.Eng / BSC in Engineering).
    • Prince2, PMI, PMP or MSP training and certification is advantageous
    • Expert knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint required, advanced knowledge of MS
      Project
    • Strong Business Acumen including good financial awareness
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Duties may include;

    • Meter deployment and installation strategy and planning
    • Ensure all project execution is being performed to quality standards in compliance with design specifications, drawings, budget and schedule.
    • Provide comprehensive day-to-day field supervision at the site, if necessary.
    • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to involved staff and contractors.
    • Also contribute to contracts, change orders, material and services, purchase orders for approval.
    • Assess and where appropriate make recommendations on contractor requests for extension of time, claims for additional payment, and contractual disputes.
    • Build and update project schedules. Responsible for ensuring completion of activities. according to schedule. Expedite and co-ordinate any delayed or potentially delayed activities.
    • Regularly update and optimize the meter deployment plan.
    • Maintain regular estimates of the cost-to-completion and time-to-completion for each task.
    • Co-ordinate and optimize the arrangement of daily activities tasked to the feasibility team or project execution crews and external subcontractors to minimize lost productivity time.
    • Assist with preparing request for proposals for tender of services and statement of work documents.
    • Certify invoices submitted by suppliers and contractors and recommend for payment.
    • Perform inspections at completion of each project phase, and sign-off on quality of workmanship along with crew leaders and external subcontractors.
    • Determine and recommend labour force, materials, and equipment requirements.
    • Co-ordinate, administer and lead weekly progress meetings with Client/general manager, site engineer, crew leaders and subcontractors.
    • Complete computer-based weekly and/or daily reports, project log and documentation files.
    • Enforce and promote site safety and project procedures and proper use of equipment.
    • Advise Client on any recommendations for improvement to practices regarding health and safety, project approach and quality control plans.
    • Recommend measures to enhance improvement or efficiency opportunities that may arise.
    • Identify risk and opportunity in all aspects of project management,and implement mitigation measures where risks are appreciable.
    • Conduct ongoing meetings with field staff to remain informed of project work and facilitate resolution of presented or developing issues.
    • Provide on-the-job training for staff in carrying out project supervision including contract administration, quality control, construction, monitoring and evaluation, and other relevant activities.

    IT Program or Project Manager

    With guidance from partners, directors and senior managers, you'll work on projects and programmes for Ernst & Young locally and globally in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Botswana and Cape Town as an IT Program or Project Manager. We are looking for business and technology consultants with deep experience and a passion for leading the delivery of client focused engagements, to join our collaborative, engaged and passionate Delivery Management team.

    The ideal candidate will support to plan, manage and co-ordinate a program of singular to multiple IT related projects and achieve goals and objectives as set for successful delivery and implementation. This includes any and all testing that may be required, if required. To ensure the project is delivered within the agreed budget. Effective management and coordination of resources on a project. Implement quality systems and metrics for managing the projects effectively and measuring the projects success. Documentation preparation & creation of all project documentation. Work with other project teams in the business to coordinate all project / task efforts. Monitoring overall progress and use of resources, initiating corrective action where necessary Managing & Identifying risk within the various projects. Take care of Supplier management and ensure supplier requirements are met on the various projects. Acts as main point of contact

    • Minimum of 8 - 10 years’ working experience
    • Minimum 6 years' managing IT programmes and/or projects using SDLC/PRINCE2 or equivalent methodologies;

    • Strong academic record including a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Information Systems or equivalent engineering degree.
    • The following is advantageous;
    • Knowledge and experience in agile methodology would be an added advantage
    • Competence in at least one of the following programming/scripting languages: Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, PHP, .NET or equivalent.
    • Competence in at least one of the following Databases: No-SQL and SQL (and others)
    • Exposure to Big Data environment
    • Exposure to PaaS/IaaS platforms such as Pivotal, Heroku, AWS, Azure or equivalent is advantageous  
    • Knowledge of IT System Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
    • Knowledge of Project Management tools: e.g. Microsoft Project, Project Portfolio Office
    • General knowledge about information systems, applications and infrastructure
