Role Objectives

This role will provide wide exposure across the range of pricing and portfolio management activities together with variety in work through interactions across the business. The role will support the fun and dynamic Pricing team with their pricing, monitoring and analytical functions. The product portfolio within Hollard Insure spans across personal, commercial and niche products giving the successful applicant exposure to a wide variety of products – an ideal opportunity to widen horizons.

Key Responsibilities

Pricing & Portfolio Monitoring

• Assist with the design and pricing of products in line with the product development control This includes modelling, implementing, testing and monitoring of rates and discounts.
• Support the structuring and pricing of both inward and outward reinsurance
• Build tools and drive the adoption of these to support the pricing
• Support portfolio management by identifying poor performing segments and suggested remedial
• Co-ordinate the timeous provision of consolidated monthly and quarterly portfolio
• Providing guidance and direction to the data acquisition team to ensure they acquire the data for the pricing function.
• Liaise with Corporate Actuarial teams to optimise the cost of capital which needs to be allowed for in pricing.

Relationship & Stakeholder Management

• Establish and maintain relationships with Hollard Insure stakeholders – key stakeholders include Distribution, Underwriting, Risk Management, Reinsurance, IT and Data
• Support Distribution teams on portfolio reviews and product development.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders in particular IT and Data
• Drive system implementation of models and

Lead delivery of IT related projects in the Risk & Underwriting

• Risk Management & Governance
• Provide support across the Risk and Underwriting function on analytical projects promoting underwriting
• Manage pricing processes in line with the Pricing

Required Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum of 3 to 7 years’ short term insurance
• Short-term technical pricing experience would be an advantage but strong technical candidates without pricing specific experience will be considered.
• SAM knowledge & Reinsurance experience is advantageous but not
• Statistical software experience would be an advantage – R, Python, Emblem
• Data manipulation – SQL, SAS, Advanced Microsoft
• Experience in supervising technical staff on projects is advantageous but not

Hello…an exciting new opportunity has just become available in our HINT, Data & Analytics area. We are looking to recruit a Senior Consultant Analytics and Data Science.

Reporting to the Head: Data and Analytics - the main purpose of the role is to drive the analytics agenda within the Hollard International business. Hollard International is a division of the Hollard Group and is responsible for enabling growth within the African markets in which it operates. The overall objective is to create bottom line value by transforming the organisation’s key decision processes and operating models across functional areas to be led by management information, insights and analytics.

This role requires travel within Africa.

The incumbent will be responsible for:

• Owning and delivering against the HINT Analytics Short Term Insurance Strategy for Rest of Africa businesses.
• Acting as the data and analytics liaison for HINT, driving buy-in and change management with offshore leadership teams to achieve medium to long term goals and grow analytics maturity
• Design, build, implement and maintain management information dashboards that provide actionable insights to offshore C-Suite and Executive teams.
• Delivering ad hoc analysis work to test hypothesis or validate findings that deliver bottom line value and drive resolution to problems
• Lead the development of machine learning models in support of distribution, retention, fraud etc.
• Supporting the design and delivery of the right data infrastructure to achieve long medium to term goals
• Lead the development of machine learning models in support of distribution, retention, fraud etc.
• Drive business value by identifying and designing data science solutions to business problems

Key stakeholders:

• The country heads and country managers of the respective business areas
• The HINT portfolio managers for the Short-Term business
• Data Engineering teams

The Head of Digital and Technology

Required Knowledge and Experience

• 2-5 years related experience
• Previous Consulting experience is prefferd.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent relationship management, facilitation and thought leadership skills.
• Strong project management and delivery skills.
• Experience in analytics (database mining, statistical, modelling and programming knowledge, test and learn).
• Experience working with data visualization tools (Power BI).
• Experience with SQL, Python.
• Experience with Azure/AWS (preferred)

Educational Requirements

• BSc/MSc in Maths/Stats, Engineering, Actuarial Science or similar.
