    Supplier Development Officer (Durban West)

    Description
    Procurement

    • Coordinate supplier development activities with Supply Chain Manager, Procurement manager, Group Procurement Head and other Procurement Managers in order to generate maximum synergy for the company
    • Design, implement and carry our cross functional supplier audit strategies in line with BU requirements
    • Liaise with BU department heads on their supplier development requirements, assuring quick and efficient turn around
    • Select, evaluate and maintain relations with vendors through periodic performance reviews and ongoing audits
    • Negotiate terms of contracts and deliveries that are favorable for the company and comply with local laws and regulations
    • Ensure that company procurement procedures are fully and transparently followed at all times
    • Secure material availability by minimizing single sourcing risks.
    • Study market trends on pricing, alternative sources of materials, shipping practices and other patterns in the industry directly affecting procurement and advise the management accordingly

    Supply Chain Administration

    • Adhere to Company standards and policies in addition to all regulatory requirements
    • Support and implement Company initiatives to achieve performance, quality and safety metrics
    • Contribute to periodic departmental and company planning and budgeting cycles including the annual Business Plan Process (BPP)
    • Select, evaluate and develop department employees, following general HR policies
    • Evaluate the training needs of all staff reporting to the position and ensure appropriate plans are in place
    • Pro-actively monitor departmental operational and financial performance and develop personal and departmental action plans to achieve targets set for the department
    • Actively support the BU management team in implementing BU- and company-wide policies/procedures and action plans
    • Collaborate with Planning managers of other Safal group companies on sharing best practices and improving performance
    • Ensure the safeguarding and security of Company assets

    Key Competencies/ Skills

    Plant Controller Manager (Durban West)

    Description
    Operational & Manufacturing Finance

    • Partner with Plant Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement teams to improve overall financial and operational performance.
    • Monitor capital expenditure (CapEx) and evaluate return on investment (ROI) for key projects.
    • Support inventory valuation, working capital management, and stock optimization initiatives.
    • Assist in developing pricing strategies through detailed cost structure and margin analysis.
    • Maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.
    • Work across organizational boundaries and all levels of management to achieve plant and corporate objectives.
    • Recommend best practices in financial management and operations, including process improvements, financial modeling, and policy changes.

    Cost Controlling & Optimization

    • Monitor and analyze production, material, labor, and overhead costs across manufacturing plant and sales branches..
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities (PIPs) and drive efficiency improvements in operations.
    • Conduct variance analysis (actual vs. budget vs. forecast) and recommend corrective actions.
    • Collaborate with Operations teams to optimize production processes, minimize waste, and improve productivity.
    • Ensure accurate product costing, margin analysis, and standard cost updates.
    • Support cost reduction initiatives in procurement and other overhead areas.
    • Monitor and report purchase commitments and spending for all capital programs.
    • Conduct follow-up audits to ensure compliance with approved capital investments and cost-saving measures.

    Financial Oversight & Internal Controls

    • Develop and enforce strong internal controls to minimize theft, fraud, and financial misstatements.
    • Conduct regular financial and compliance audits across all plants.
    • Partner with Security and Internal Audit teams to monitor high-risk areas (e.g., warehouses, procurement, and cash transactions).
    • Monitor cost variances, production efficiency, and material usage to identify anomalies or inefficiencies.
    • Perform frequent walk-throughs of manufacturing operations with Plant Leadership to address costing and production issues.
    • Conduct branch or retail store visits for verification of inventory and cash handling processes.

    Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance Management

    • Oversee preparation of plant budgets, forecasts, and rolling financial plans.
    • Consolidate plant-level financial performance and report to senior management.
    • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cost, efficiency, and profitability.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to improve forecast accuracy and operational predictability.

    Leadership & Strategy

    • Provide leadership and direction to Plant Controllers and finance teams across sites.
    • Align plant financial objectives with overall corporate strategy and operational excellence targets.
    • Act as key financial advisor to Plant Management and the Head of Finance.
    • Develop team capabilities through coaching, mentorship, and structured performance reviews.
    • Champion a culture of accountability, cost awareness, and continuous improvement.

    Systems & Data Integrity (SAP S/4HANA)

    • Ensure data integrity and accuracy in SAP S/4HANA, particularly within Production, Costing, and Inventory modules.
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in financial systems and reporting processes.
    • Collaborate with IT and Finance teams to optimize system workflows and reporting accuracy.

    Requirements

    • Preferred academic qualification: BCOM in Finance / Production Management or Equivalent  
    • General work experience (years): 8–10 years’ experience in manufacturing or plant finance, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
    • Specific to the position (Level/discipline): Proven working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA , with hands on experience Production, costing and Maintenance Module (Prior ERP Administrator experience advantageous)

    Description

    Roll Shop-Foreman (Durban)

    Description

    • To control maintenance staff tasked with roll activities and be able to take the initiative to start and carry out tasks other than being requested to do in accordance with company, national and customer standards.
    • Oversee operations of Roll Shop Machines
    • Identify and report irregularities to the Production and Maintenance
    • Up-dating of roll change register, Prepare Grinding loss reports

    Roll Grinder (Durban)

    Description

    • To operate and ensure the roll grinder machinery in accordance with company standards and operating parameters.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Adhere to safe work practice and good housekeeping (6S)
    • Carry out the grinding of rolls for CRM and SPM and adhere to the grinding procedures within correct tolerances of dimensions.
    • Monitor the operation of the grinding machinery.
    • Check and ensure quality of rolls relating to surface finish, hardness, Ultrasonic Tester (UT) and the dimensions.
    • Ensure correct balancing of grinding wheels prior to operating the roll grinder machine.
    • Ensure good condition of the measuring instruments, UT and hardness tester.
    • Reporting of operating parameters.
    • Ensuring of training to all roll grinders with regards to SOP
    • Ensure SOP for roll grinding is updated and roll grinders is trained on SOP
    • Ensure Skin pass rolls are grinded properly within tolerance and blasting quality is done properly.
    • Ensure both roll grinding machines is in good working order and maintenance is done as required on a shutdown schedule.

    Requirements
    Minimum academic qualification:

    • Matric (Maths & Science)/National Diploma in Engineering/Relevant Technical Qualification

    Fire and Risk Officer (Durban)

    Description

    • Provide an Emergency and Firefighting and preventions service. Safety provision and support in conjunction with the site Safety Officer.

    Fire Safety and Prevention

    • Develop and implement fire safety protocols and emergency response plans in line with organizational and regulatory standards.
    • Conduct regular fire risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend mitigation measures.
    • Coordinate fire drills, training sessions, and fire safety awareness programs for all staff members.

    Emergency Response

    • Serve as the primary responder for fire-related incidents and ensure effective coordination of emergency response teams.
    • Ensure fire extinguishers, alarm systems, sprinklers, and other firefighting equipment are regularly inspected, maintained, and meet safety standards.
    • Develop and maintain emergency evacuation plans and procedures, ensuring clear communication and training for staff.

    Risk Assessment and Management

    • Identify potential workplace hazards and conduct risk assessments for fire and other safety threats.
    • Collaborate with the HSE team to develop control measures, implement safety improvements, and reduce risks.
    • Evaluate existing safety protocols and recommend updates in line with current best practices and compliance requirements.

    Compliance and Reporting

    • Ensure compliance with local fire safety regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies.
    • Maintain accurate records of fire safety activities, including inspection logs, risk assessment reports, and training records.
    • Prepare and present fire and risk assessment reports, incident investigations, and safety audit findings to management.

    Requirements

    • Minimum Qualification: Education: Matric- Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Fire Officer, Fire Inspector, or Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Certification preferred.
    • Experience: 3+ years of experience in fire safety, risk management, or a similar role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
    • Knowledge: Familiarity with local fire and safety codes, emergency response procedures, and risk assessment practices.

    Certification:

    • Firefighter I & II certification (NFPA or equivalent). Fire Officer I certification (NFPA or equivalent).
    • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is often required.
    • Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certification.
    • Additional certifications, such as Fire Instructor or Fire Inspector, are advantageous
