    Engineering Systems Specialist L1

    Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for Engineering Systems Specialist on a contract basis for our head office in Bryanston.

    Job Objective:

    • To maintain and implement the company preferred engineering systems and workflows
    • To provide technical application support to the engineering and design teams

    Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

    • Install and configure engineering and design applications on user’s machines as required
    • Ensure correct configurations are deployed to user’s machines
    • Provide technical guidance and user support for engineering and design applications when required
    • Collaborate with Engineering Systems Specialist to develop, implement, and maintain system standards and libraries in conjunction with other Engineering Systems Specialists
    • Contribute to long term strategic development plan for engineering systems and related engineering and design applications
    • Extract material take offs as and when required in accordance with department/project requirements
    • Identify training and retraining requirements and report findings to the Engineering Systems Manager
    • Drive continuous improvement and cost saving initiatives
    • Generate Navisworks 3D model daily

    Skills / Qualifications

    Knowledge, skills, and experience:

    • Engineering qualification in either Process engineering, Mechanical engineering or Instrumentation Engineering
    • Relevant design/CAD experience would be an advantage
    • Programming language qualifications and experience for example VBA, C#, SQL, PML etc. an advantage
    • Proven computer skills and knowledge of CAD applications, relational databases, and spreadsheets.
    • Experience and with AVEVA suite of applications is a distinctive advantage
    • Experience in Microsoft Windows, and local and wide area networking environments
    • Understanding the importance of database-driven, integrated design systems and flow of engineering information on industrial projects
    • A proven ability to translate client and company requirements into engineering system and engineering work practices

    Instrument Engineer

    Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Instrument Engineers with extensive experience in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or similar sector of the industry to provide support to our Client in the execution of projects.

    Job Objectve:

    • Responsible for the design of all instrumentation on assigned projects.
    • Responsible for preparation of project related standards and job notes.
    • Prepare requisition index for instrument work, indicating planned issue date for each requisition. Update and reissue monthly.
    • Check the drawing index for instrumentation drawings.
    • Prepare general notes requisitions for instrumentation.
    • Review flowsheets for correctness in respect of instrumentation.
    • Prepare a project instrument index in accordance with the flowsheets.
    • Design and requisition instrumentation. This includes instrument size and protection methodology calculations and verification checks.
    • Assist the designers with the preparation of instrumentation drawings.
    • Review all instrumentation drawings and ensure that the quality of design and drawings produced for enquiry and fabrication purposes is of satisfactory standard.
    • Prepare technical bid analysis for instrumentation.
    • Attend coordination meetings and engineering review meetings with supplier as required.
    • Review document requirements and issue dates for major equipment with suppliers and assist Procurement Department in compiling a Supplier’s Document Index.
    • Assist Procurement Department with the expediting of supplier documents.
    • Review and approve supplier documents for instrumentation and distribute.
    • Give guidance to client, project engineers, other specialist engineers and inspectors on Instrumentation engineering matters. Review instrumentation aspects of package unit supplier’s drawings as requested by the engineer responsible for the equipment.
    • Advise the Principal Instrument Engineer of any slippages and their causes and proposed corrective action.
    • Advise the Principal Instrument Engineer of any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups.
    • Co-ordinate with Procurement Department and ensure certified drawings are available in time to meet the engineering schedules.
    • Notify the Project Engineer of all deficiencies in the flow of data or other basic information required for execution of work.
    • Assist the Lead / Principal Instrument Engineer with the progress reports.
    • Follow up instrumentation construction work on project sites to ensure correct interpretation of designs regarding installation. Resolve any Instrumentation problems arising during commissioning.
    • Keep abreast of development in the instrumentation engineering field.
    • Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects.
    • Assist where necessary in the compilation of operating manuals and mechanical catalogues.
    • Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Principal Instrumentation Engineer.

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • BSc, BEng, BTech

    Knowledge, skills and experience:

    • In-Tools 6.0 or Higher
    • 3 Years minimum experience

    Structural Checker

    Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Structural Checker with experience in the Mining and Metals industry.

    Job Objective:

    • Checking steelwork drawings and models in accordance with accepted Engineering practice and company drafting procedures.
    • To work in a safe manner, complying with and actively contributing to the company Health, Safety and Environmental HSE policies, manuals and procedures. At all times considering the health, safety and welfare of fellow workers, visitors, clients, community and the environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Checking of drawings and models on time and within budget - encompassing all aspects of a plant construction package in accordance with relevant standards and project requirements.
    • Clarity and accuracy of drawings.
    • Knowledge and adherence to CAD Procedures.
    • Knowledge of and adherence to applicable standards and the company Drafting Procedures.
    • Accurate completion and timely submission of timesheets.
    • Adherence to project man-hour budgets.
    • Adherence to company Standards and Procedures.
    • Assist with training of junior draughtspersons.

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Sound structural drafting background.

    Knowledge, skills and experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years design draughting experience, specifically in the mining and minerals processing area.
    • Familiar with relevant 2D & 3D CAD software, company Drafting Procedures.
    • Broad knowledge of construction and operations.
    • Good understanding of technology.
    • Experience with Process Plant design and layout.
    • Understanding of other discipline requirements.
    • Checking skills with ability to work unsupervised, focus on task completion.

    Senior Infrastructure Designer

    Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Designer with extensive experience in the Mining and Metals industry.

    Key Responsibilities:
     

    • Create graphical representations of civil infrastructure (earthworks, roads, stormwater, sewer, pipelines, channels etc.)
    • Review, interpret and correlate topographical survey data for import into design software.
    • Assist Engineers to carry out road and stormwater designs.
    • Assist Engineers to carry out network analysis for water and sewer pipelines
    • Calculate earthworks volumes and assist with material take-off’s required for Bills of Quantities.
    • Review sketches, drawings, specifications, geotechnical and other data received from Civil Engineers to ensure design standards and best engineering practices are adopted.
    • Production of civil and reinforcement drawings encompassing all aspects of a plant construction package in accordance with relevant standards and project requirements.
    • Timely completion of drawings to schedules.
    • Adherence to project man-hour budgets.
    • Adherence to Standards and Procedures.
    • Assist with training of junior draughts persons.
    • Production of drawings on time and within budget.

    • Minimum of 10-15 years design draughting experience, of which 5 years are in the mining and minerals processing area.
    • Produce drawings using computer modelling and drafting software specifically AutoCAD Civil 3D.
    • Broad knowledge of construction and operations.
    • Good understanding of technology.
    • Experience with Process Plant design and layout.
    • Understanding of other discipline requirements.
    • Checking skills with ability to work unsupervised, focus on task completion
