    Hydro-Mechanical Engineer - Water

    Job Description

    • AECOM is looking to employ an Engineer - Hydromechanical

    Technical Excellence

    • Mechanical equipment in water conveyance systems, gates, control valves; screens hoists, etc. experience critical
    • Experience in the design of bulk fluid conveyance systems: bulk pipelines, valve chambers, surge mitigation; network distribution systems, pump stations; water treatment plants, etc.
    • Should understand standard fluid conveyance components, how they work, what their limitations are, and how to use them within a design
    • Experience with inter-discipline coordination – electrical; instrumental; civil structural, etc. Must be able to have meaningful discussions on a technical level on these disciplines, and defer to discipline leads to make final decisions
    • Constructability and Safety in Design must be in mind during the design process.
    • Must be able to have robust discussions with stakeholders, get complex ideas across, discuss critical items with other specialists, and manage other personalities, conflicts, etc, while still guiding the discussion to a meaningful result – a solution for the technical problem.
    • Must be solution-driven; have a positive outlook; and be able to weather the client’s abuse even when not guilty.

    Qualifications:

    • BEng Degree (Mech) from a recognised university
    • M Degree (preferably in Mechanical Engineering or related field)
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
    • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in hydro-mechanical engineering or related field
    • Demonstrated experience with hydraulic systems and fluid dynamics
    • In-depth knowledge of water treatment processes and technologies
    • Proficiency in CAD software and 3D modelling
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    Technical Director - Dams

    Job Description

    • To lead the Dams and Hydropower Sector in delivering engineering projects and ensuring sustainable business growth.
    • Provides strong technical leadership and is considered to be a competent professional in their field.
    • Act as a Project Manager /Director on medium to large-sized projects
    • Responsible for financial management of projects in the sector
    • Work collaboratively at both an internal and external, client-facing level, developing new client relationships and maintaining existing networks within the business.
    • Ensure all quality assurance processes are followed, delivering on time and within budget for design projects.
    • Support the business development and selling initiatives to expand work assignments, including managing client relationships and expectations.

    Qualifications

    • At least 15 years’ experience in dams/hydropower and general water engineering
    • Fluent in English (ability to speak/write French will be an added benefit)
    • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects and meeting delivery requirements.
    • Management experience of teams of 10 people or more.
    • Ability to and interest in guiding and mentoring junior engineers and designers, contributing to the growth of our talent pipeline

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s in civil/mechanical engineering (Master’s degree will be preferred)
    • Professionally Registered with ECSA or relevant professional body
    • Registration as an Approved Professional Person (South Africa) or equivalent

    Environmental Scientist

    Job Description

    • The Environmental Scientist develops environmental outputs through various stages of the project, undertakes coordination and carries out environmental studies while working as part of the project team.
    • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment as an experienced Engineer/Environmental Scientist/ Environmental Manager.

Works on detailed or routine environmental assignments involving surveys, specifications, sketches, diagrams, specific discipline models/ inputs, drawings, reports and tender documents. Identifies discrepancies in results and proposes an approach to solving new problems encountered.
    • Performs work under the agreed-upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision—coordinates with other discipline Engineers/ Scientists as applicable for the environmental assessments. Maintains and develops the highest level of technical skills and abilities, ensuring that the environmental quality of reporting complies with Client and Authority requirements.
    • Coordinates with Authorities for Environmental approvals.
