    Electrical Project Engineer & Quality - OptiPower - Bedfordview

    Key Performance Indicators:
     

    • Complete the task on time, to the prescribed schedule and according to the needs of the assignment or project organisation.
    • Prepare and compile evaluation and analysis reports.
    • Select fit-for-purpose technology that meets or exceeds customer requirements
    • Provide assistance to site execution teams with regards to electrical enquiries.
    • Liaise with allied engineering disciplines and departments to ensure a co-ordinated solution.
    • Provide technical input and industry knowledge to enhance proposals and tenders
    • Prepare Electrical specifications and documents to satisfy designated engineering standards.
    • Prepare Bill of quantities for procurement purposes.
    • Confirm equipment or machines are ordered to the project or client specifications
    • Commission and hand-over of completed plants that meet contracted performance criteria

    ​​​​​Key Responsibilities: 

    Analysis and Feasibility

    • Task analysis and planning
    • Develop structured work methodologies for the assigned task. 
    • Consider risks and threats to task completion and mitigate proactively.
    • Liaise with allied engineering disciplines and departments to ensure a coordinated solution.
    • Assess the electrical engineering options presented by vendors for equipment to the needs of the organisation and provide accurate technical bid evaluation reports based on the assessment.
    • Assist Quality department with quality checks and sign off of project quality documentation.

    Specifications and Design

    • Define and agree Electrical scope, battery limits, environment factors and constraints standards, design considerations and requirements design verification and testing, site installation and commissioning needs where applicable
    • Provide business advice on planning operations in respect to optimizing electrical and civil engineering.
    • Project Engineering 
    • Implement appropriate planning systems and schedules for projects.
    • Participation in electrical and civil engineering improvement projects.
    • Participate in project meetings
    • Preparation of plans and updates for projects.
    • Manage project process to ensure deadlines are met.
    • Advise on value adding or electrical and civil engineering improvements. 
    • Ensure plans comply with legislation.
    • Co-ordinate, report and audit work/budgets of assigned subcontractors/vendors.
    • Monitor in-house and outsourced projects for the maintenance of applicable Regulations, The Act, Codes of practice and standards.
    • Provide electrical engineering advice on planning operations.
    • Provide direction and supervision of in house or outsourced detail drawing/cad offices.

    Reporting and Administration

    • Supporting administration and correspondence is up to date and accurate.
    • Prepare and compile evaluation/analysis reports.
    • Ensure the preservation of departmental records and statistics.   Ensure that technical data is secure.

    Stakeholder Management

    • Stakeholders to be regularly informed and kept up to date of scope changes and variations.
    • Continuously liaise with the project management, on electrical & civil engineering developments, technology and innovations.
    •  Support efforts to overcome operational problems
    • Support management team to achieve improved performance
    • Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers and clients.

    Minimum requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Engineering Degree, ideally Electrical Engineering
    • Registered with ECSA.

    Skills & Experience:

    • At least 5 years related work experience in the renewables  sector
    • Demonstrate hands-on design and commissioning experience
    • Demonstrate experience in substation, transmission and distribution sector.

    Technical systems:

    • Project management principles
    • Administrative processes and report
    • Health and Safety requirements.

    EPC Construction Manager - OptiPower Various Projects

    Key Permformance Indicators:

    • Health & Safety Management – Zero Fatalities and Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs). Monthly Attendance of Health & Safety Site Meetings. Full compliance to the OHS Act.
    • Waste & Environmental Management – Full implementation of Waste Management Plan. Full compliance to the National Environmental Management Act (“NEMA”) and NEM: Waste Act. Full compliance to the Environmental Management Programme (“EMPr”) as included in the Environmental Authorisation (“EA”). Implement and maintain high Housekeeping Standards and ensure the Site remains clean and tidy at all times.
    • Site Management & Subcontractor Management – Identify construction risks and possible bottlenecks and proactively align efforts of the various disciplines and respective subcontractor Scope of Works to ensure efficiencies and a high productivity rate.
    • Quality Control & Inspection – Implement the Quality Control Plan. Ensure inspections of the Works when required and holding points signed-off. Ensure Inspection Sheets and Test Reports are up to date and stored in the Project Data Room as per the Document Control Procedure. Encourage the First Time Right (“FTR”) principal to avoid costly and time-consuming reworks.
    • Monitoring & Reporting – Daily monitoring of all Site activities and timeous submission of Key Project Progress Indicators and other reports, as required by and agreed with the EPC PM.
    • Time & Cost Management – Ensure Construction activities are completed on time as per the Project Programme (Schedule) and within budget, or as per pre-approved (by the EPC PM), variations when applicable.
    • Construction Drawings, Designs & Document Control – Ensure strict adherence to the Document Control procedure by all EPC personnel and subcontractors on Site.
    • Stakeholder Engagement & Customer Satisfaction – Build professional relationships with subcontractors, organised labour and the Employer’s representatives working on Site.
    • Key Responsibilities:
    • Take full ownership of the Solar PV Project Construction Site from NTP to COD and Power Plant Hand-Over.
    • Serve as the Contractor’s primary on-site representative.
    • Take full responsibility of Health & Safety on Site as the Construction Manager legally appointed in terms of Section 8.1 of the Construction Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (“OHS Act”).
    • Ensure the Contractor fulfil its’ contractual obligation in terms of the lump sum fixed price EPC Contract with respect to all Site activities.
    • Closely collaborate with the EPC team on Site to ensure project success.
    • Keep a Construction Site Daily Dairy and conduct daily Site Meetings with the EPC team and subcontractor representatives and / or construction managers to coordinate the various Site activities of the respective subcontractors. 
    • Continuously monitor the construction activities and progress, and provide daily reports and updates to the EPC PM on the construction progress, including quality and safety metrics, in the required format.
    • Provide regular updates specific to the construction activities to management and external partners (only when contractually required to do so).
    • Interface with the Utility and project Off-Takers on Site and only with respect to on-Site activities.
    • Ensure the Construction Site Safety File is up to date and immediately address any shortcoming or outstanding information and / or liaise with the EPC PM to resolve issues.
    • Coordinate the project Commissioning, Performance Testing and Closeout activities, with support from the Contractor’s appointed Commissioning Engineer and support staff.
    • Coordinate the training of the Employer’s Operations and Maintenance (“O&M”) team during Hot Commission until COD with support from the Contractor’s O&M internal personnel and / or external consultants.
    • Monitor the Contractor and respective subcontractors’ compliance with their respective contracts and / or SLAs, specifically in terms of Quality, Safety, Schedule and Budget and related to on Site activities.
    • Conduct daily site audits, specifically but not limited to, construction activities on the Critical Path, in coordination with Quality Control Lead, Health & Safety Lead and EPC PM and identify possible risks and / or bottlenecks to be addressed and resolved.

    Minimum requirements

    Qualifications:

    • BTech in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
    • SACPCMP Certification advantageous
    • Construction Regulations Certificate
    • OHS Act Certificate
    • Legal Liability Certificate
    • HIRA Certificate
    • Planned task observations Certificate

    Skills & Experience 

    • Have previously performed the above duties and responsibilities for Utility-Scale Solar PV Projects.
    • Have previous experience in lump sum fixed price EPC Contracts for the Solar PV Projects.
    • Preference: Experience on projects over 100MWp.
    • Substation and transmission line construction and commissioning experience.
    • Physically fit to work at the Construction Site full-time during the construction phase of the Project.
    • Expertise in EPC Construction Processes and Procedures.

    Technical Buyer - OptiPower

    Key performance indicators:

    • Contribute to the overall procurement strategy, risk identification, critical tasks & performance targets
    • Extracting transactional reports from JD Edwards for the contract evaluation process.
    • Purchase order amendments to avoid payment discrepancies.
    • The placing and expediting of purchase orders with suppliers listed approved vendor database.
    • Authorise Vendor administrator to correct the supplier contact information if necessary.
    • Compile and issuing of RFQ’s, RFI’s, RFP’s and making written recommendations after adjudication.

    • Ensure Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) methodology is followed.
    • Demonstrate cross functional engagement within the procurement commodities
    • Coordinate and drive the BBBEE spend with the purchasing team to meet the Company’s preferential procurement and local purchasing targets.
    • Monitor the team’s performance and adherence to departmental procedure and policies.

    Key responsibilities: 

    • Complete assigned procurement activities on time, to the prescribed schedule, according to the needs of the assignment and/ or project organization using the correct procedures and processes.
    • Manage and implement supplier evaluation and selection processes to ensure the cost effective procurement of goods and services.
    • Support the estimation process by obtaining supply information to compile a winning bid timeously and at the best cost to the projects.
    • Identify and collate a procurement risk profile for the project and implement mitigating actions.
    • Support the site by ensuring all plant, equipment and consumables are procured in the agreed time and at the agreed cost.
    • Be part of the contract review team with the construction team and implement learning acquired from previous procurement activities.
    • Coordinate the dispatch of materials to site in order to meet the construction plan on time.
    • Issue clearing documentation for inbound and outbound logistics.
    • Scan the market for new suppliers and alternative products with regards to price and quality.
    • Negotiate purchase agreements, lease agreements, sale and settlement discounts.
    • Perform the tender administration process and compile tender specifications for suppliers.
    • Review the tender with user department and review all documentation for Tender Board.
    • Ensure appropriate systems and controls are in place to manage resources and assets.
    • Be responsible for supervision of the pricelist for projects.

    • Liaise closely with the Planning department to ensure material resource planning.
    • Work closely with Material Management Stores people in ensuring all goods are delivered to the End Users in terms of services provided.
    • Be responsible for the purchasing process of all materials, suppliers, equipment and services.
    • Review Enquiry Documentations, identify the Scope of Work and related documents to determine the extent of procurement input required.
    • Extract relevant information and compile procurement packages.
    • Ensure procurement strategy is supported by internal vendor approval status (initiate additional vendor approvals as and when required).
    • Prepare Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages according to the procurement requirements.
    • Issue and manage RFQ process taking cognisance of tender closing and time constraint.
    • Adjudicate and recommend preferred suppliers/subcontractors from both a technical and commercial compliance perspective.
    • Prepare, preserve, secure and compile evaluation/ analysis reports, procurement departmental records, statistical information, technical data and ensure that supporting documents administration and correspondence is up to date and accurate

    Minimum requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Matric (Grade 12).
    • A Commercial/ Supply Chain Management qualification, typically B.Com or Supply Chain Management

    Skills & Experience : 

    • 5 - 7 years’ experience in the Procurement, Materials and Logistics Management position.
    • Experience in the mining/ construction company will be an added advantage.
    • Good and professional working relationship with suppliers and service providers.
    • Be proficient in MS Excel and be able to use formulas to extract information from spreadsheets.
    • Working knowledge of JDE, SAP or other ERP system.

    Solar PV Project Manager - OptiPower

    Key Performance Indicators:

    • Establish project control plan & Procedures and Project Execution Plan for the projects
    • Identify and develop project control team to manage the required tasks
    • Develop Engineering, Procurement & Construction Registers
    • Coordination & necessary follow ups with Engineering, procurement & Construction team for various project affairs

    Qualification:

    • Technical qualification (B/Bsc Eng or B Tech) or PMP Certification.
    • Eligible to register with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
    • Registered with a certified Project Management Body e.g. Project Management Institute (PMI), The South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPMP)
