    Project Officer

    Job description

    Job Purpose:

    To coordinate, facilitate and implement various projects relating to the HR function for the TS&I Cluster in conjunction with other special areas e.g. EThekwini Municipality Academy, Talent Management, and Employment Equity etc.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Coordinate and prepare reports detailing progress and outcomes of projects.
    • Undertake research on special projects.
    • Monitoring and keeping records of knowledge transfer programmes with beneficiaries and relevant stakeholders.
    • Undertake administration and logistical arrangements.
    • Administer Department performance agreements.
    • Represent the Unit at Council, Committee and Civil Meetings in the absence of the Manager (HR Development and Special Projects).
    • Correspondence and writing of reports for committees or other organizations.

    Essential Requirements:

    • Matric Grade 12 plus relevant certificate accredited by SAQA, e.g. Project Management Certificate.
    • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
    • 2 Years relevant experience.
    • Computer literacy.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Relevant 3 year tertiary qualification, i.e. Diploma or Degree.
    • Years relevant experience.

    Civil Engineer

    Job description

    Job Purpose:

    Applies professional principles and, controls technical procedures and processes to address the specific engineering requirements.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Provides technical support to the Area / Works Project Engineer.
    • Responsible for the professional analysis of the various aspects associated with water conveyance and storage, wastewater conveyance and disposal.
    • Interacts with the other organisations and affected parties in order to ensure that all parties are advised of projects that affect them.
    • Undertakes professional supervision of contracts.
    • Responsible for the preparation of draft routine reports, correspondence and estimates for submission to Area Engineer.
    • Responsible for checking of Developer's submission in order to ensure compliance with the Department's design criteria and specifications.

    Essential Requirements:

    • BSc Civil Engineering.
    • Must be registered as a candidate engineer with ECSA.
    • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
    • 2 years general civil engineering experience of which at least 1 year is in water or sanitation engineering.

    Special Conditions:

    • Post of Engineer (Civil) on the same grade are interchangeable within the Department at the discretion of the Deputy Head.
    • Work sample and/or psychometric tests may be undertaken as part of the selection process.

    PROFESSIONAL TECHNOLOGIST(CIVIL)

    Job description

    Job Purpose:

    To monitor the overall operation of the water supply systems of the EThekwini region using the telemetry system.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Manage the daily operation of subordinate staff.
    • Manage, programme and maintain the development and operation of the telemetry system.
    • Engineers the display of new water supply installations in the telemetry system.
    • Upgrades the existing telemetry system records of installation.
    • Diagnose and arrange for the correction of errors or faults represented on the telemetry system.
    • Programme automatic control functions of pumps, valves and similar equipment on remote sites.
    • Manage the development of computer applications required to support the software functions of the Water Network Radion Control Centre.
    • Manage the technological environment of the Water Network Radion Control Centre.

    Essential Requirements:

    • Relevant B.Tech plus registration as a Professional Technologist (Pr. Technologist) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
    • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
    • 3 Years relevant experience.

    SENIOR MANAGER (CONSTRUCTION)

    Job description

    Job Purpose:

    To provide new Water and Sanitation Infrastructure, maintain bulk water supply infrastructure and provide technical and building services to other Branches/Departments throughout eThekwini Municipality in accordance with the Integrated Development Plan.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Provides overall management and direction to the Branch, ensuring that service delivery is provided in an economic and sustainable manner.
    • Manages and controls staff to ensure that the Municipality's objectives are achieved and staff function effectively.
    • Assumes responsibility for the financial management of the Branch, ensuring controlled service delivery. Implements the Branch's plans, ensuring that objectives are achieved.
    • Facilitates growth and development by co-ordinating activities of the Branch with other Municipal Departments and Agencies, facilitating skills development and training by CETA and LGW SETA, training and mentoring SMME's.
    • Provides a safe and healthy working environment for all activities undertaken by the Branch.
    • Keeps abreast of technological developments and ensures best possible prices are obtained for the Branch with careful specifications for purchases and construction activities.
    • Assists top management in formulating strategic direction for the Unit by providing specialised input.
    • Deals with ad hoc issues that arise which fall within the terms of reference of the Branch.

    Essential Requirements:

    • Registered with ECSA as a Professional Technologist.
    • Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code B).
    • 6 Years relevant experience in a civil/construction environment.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • B.Sc. (Civil Engineering) and registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
    • 8 Years relevant experience on large civil engineering projects in the water- engineering sector.

    Special Conditions:

    • Available for emergency call-outs as required.
    • Work sample and/or psychometric tests may be undertaken as part of the selection process.
