    L&H Actuarial Modelling Business Analyst

    About The Role

    • The Modelling Center of Excellence (MCoE) is responsible for the development, maintenance and on-going support of the MoSes modelling platform, used by Swiss Re Reinsurance L&H for pricing, financial reporting and business steer. The model is used in a number of locations spanning the UK, Europe, Latin America, South Africa, Asia and Australia.
    • With dotted line management to the MCoE Actuarial Modelling Business Analyst Lead based in London, you will be a valued member of the MCoE Business Analyst team, which comprises 2 or more members. This is a very exciting opportunity for a highly skilled part qualified/newly qualified Actuary to join the Life & Health Business Management division. As a key member of the team, you will ensure the continued smooth functioning of the MCoE Business Analyst team, through excellent stakeholder management with our end users and with delivery that exceeds stakeholder's expectations.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Be part of the MCoE Business Analyst Team and work closely with the Regional Actuarial Management teams, who are responsible for L&H reserving, to ensure that the business requirements that they define are fit for purpose. Create functional specifications and test strategy for developments. Continually collaborate within MCoE with the Architect, Development Lead, Testing Lead and Production Support, to ensure correct prioritisation of model developments and recommend solutions that provide the most effective results for the business.

    Other Responsibilities Include

    • Work with the MCoE Business Analyst Lead to manage the relationships with the Regional Actuarial Management teams responsible for L&H reserving
    • Analysis and documentation of business and functional requirements and the test strategy that will feed into the MCoE Model Development team
    • Coach and work with the Regional Actuarial Management teams help them properly define and prioritise requirements, scope / time / quality / cost / risk etc.
    • Review the technical specifications against functional requirements to ensure fit for purpose
    • Review the final testing results and testing sign-off documentation against the end user acceptance test criterial to ensure a smooth transition when handing over back to the users
    • Lead the handover of the MoSes models back to the business and provide the necessary user training
    • Support the MCoE Business Analyst Lead to develop new or revised processes or procedures for the MCoE Business Analysis function
    • Ensure a clear and deep understanding of MCoE models
    • Ensure an understanding of the wider systems landscape
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge using business analysis concepts within an actuarial/insurance landscape
    • Design and delivery of end user acceptance test sign-off criteria with the business users
    • Ensure all business processes within the MCoE Business Analyst team are in line with standard practice and that adequate controls and documentation are in place
    • Support the MCoE Business Analyst Lead to plan, conduct and supervise projects and assignments
    • Responsible for ensuring your own performance and delivery is at an increasingly high quality
    • Continually strive to increase the skills and knowledge of the MCoE Business Analyst team and to seek constant improvements to the processes and procedures

    Key Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications And Experience

    • Highly skilled near qualified/qualified Actuary with at least 5+ years' experience working in the life insurance industry. Exposure to the MoSes platform is advantageous, but other actuarial modelling experience would also be considered
    • Ability to forge strong relationships, with excellent facilitation, elicitation and conflict management skills
    • Excellent organisational and analytical skills with attention to detail – able to quickly absorb details on business structure, product features and model requirements, and to own the production of clear business and functional specifications
    • Good knowledge of actuarial reserving practices and theory in the reinsurance / life insurance industry
    • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, with an ability to work with stakeholders spread over several locations
    • Hands-on experience in the software development lifecycle is important. Must be able to negotiate effectively and manage conflict
    • Be able to influence opinions / decisions, successfully deal with ambiguity in requirements
    • Exposure to Microsoft Technologies (FoxPro, VBA, C++, etc.) is advantageous
    • Delivery focussed and proactive
    • A thorough understanding of the end-to-end software systems development process is essential
    • Working knowledge of project management, quality assurance and testing methodologies
    • Cross cultural experience working with colleagues & stakeholders globally
    • Proficiency in working in Excel, and other spreadsheet and database packages

    MoSes Model Developer - L&H Actuarial Modelling

    Job description

    Core Responsibilities

    • Be part of the MCoE Actuarial Modelling Development Team to ensure that the requirements received from the MCoE Business Analyst team and assigned to you, are translated into detailed technical specifications and designs. To implement the required changes into the MoSes models in a controlled, audited and robust manner. Delivery focussed with a keen eye for attention to detail, you will competently manage your work load and recommend solutions that provide the most effective results for the business. Other responsibilities include to:
    • Support the MCoE Development Lead to maximise quality, effectiveness of development tasks and unit testing of actuarial MoSes models
    • Support the MCoE Development Lead with development of tasks/projects implemented into the MoSes actuarial models, create detailed technical specifications, developments, unit testing, and management reports
    • Ensure that the functional requirements assigned to you are effectively translated into detailed and accurate technical specifications such that the changes you make to the MoSes models are accurate, efficient, robust and fit for purpose
    • Prepare model development documentation, reports and other documentation needed to support the development team and related operational processes
    • Strive to continually document and enhance the code and that the code structure is scalable
    • Eagerness to support other MCoE teams to help resolve issues within the model through debugging, unit testing and knowledge sharing
    • Continually strive to increase the skills and knowledge of the MCoE development team, and to seek constant improvements to the processes and procedures

    Key Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications And Experience

    • Highly skilled C++ software developer with at least 3+ years of experience developing complex applications ideally in the insurance/actuarial industry. Exposure to the MoSes and Risk Agility MoSes platform is highly advantageous, but other financial model development experience would also be considered
    • Part qualified actuary preferred, though not essential if coupled with MoSes coding / industry experience
    • MoSes platform development experience a definite advantage
    • Proficiency in Programming in C++, VBA, FoxPro, SQL
    • Excellent organisational and analytical skills with attention to detail – able to quickly absorb details on business structure, product features and model requirements.
    • Experienced in the production of detailed technical specifications
    • Working knowledge of project management, quality assurance and testing methodologies
    • Good communication, both written and verbal, with an ability to work with other MCoE team members in multiple locations
    • Cross cultural experience working with colleagues globally
    • Proficiency in working in MS Project, Excel, and other spreadsheet and database packages
    • Ability to identify complex problems, find innovate solutions and translate this into software solutions within the modelling platform
    • Experienced in the production of quality documentation and software development
    • Ability to work independently, accurately and deliver to deadlines
    • Shows initiative in identifying issues and supporting other team members, peers and senior stakeholders
    • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks accordingly
