    Senior Analyst Profitability

    Job description

    • To perform data analysis, forecasting and model development of key risk- and profitability trends. To leverage the unique combination of business and credit risk levers to support and lead business in optimising the profitable growth strategy of the portfolio.
    • To provide business with the analytics that measure product profitability and support the development of pricing strategies and plans.
    • Develop, monitor and maintain the necessary profit model framework to supply accurate and reliable insights.
    • Responsible for tracking metrics and trends, as well as establishing, maintaining and analysing profit reference documentation in order to uncover key market and pricing insights, such as how pricing strategy will affect the consumer, and how it relates to competitors.
    • Prepare pricing recommendations/scenario development based on analysis (including price elasticity testing), and present them to other business units such as Finance, Commercial and Sales in order to help those teams make pricing decisions.
    • Integrate economic forecasts and stress testing in scenario development to inform strategic decisioning.
    • Oversight and sign-off of risk appetite setting, credit risk strategy impacts, business cases and financial targets.
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on requirements and delivery within expectation.

    FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

    • Knowledge and application of retail financial services and/or credit risk management techniques across the entire credit life cycle on consumer portfolios.
    • Proven ability in analytics, business acumen and presenting/communicating recommendations across all organisation levels.
    • Understanding of financial metrics in relation to portfolio management and the associated forecasting thereof.
    • Comprehensive understanding of portfolio trends and data relationships in order to improve analytical recommendations.
    • Effective stakeholder management and ability to work with diverse teams to ensure effective implementation of projects.
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal (including being able to run workgroups/meetings and minute-taking).

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

    • University degree in Business/Mathematics/Statistics/Accounting/Economics/Risk Management or equivalent industry training and experience
    • CA (SA) would be advantageous

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    • Preferably 3-5 years’ Pricing, Portfolio or Credit Risk Analyst or Senior Analyst experience, performing data analysis utilizing a standard statistical package such as SAS or SQL.
    • Alternatively CA (SA) candidates should have experience within the Retail Financial Services or Banking industry.
    • Practical experience in using analytics to solve complex business problems would be advantageous.
    • Experience in working with various data sets as well as ability to establish data integrity and relationships.
    • Experience in working in an outsourced environment and effectively implementing solutions using both internal and external resources.
    • Experience in SAS (intermediate or advanced) programming or equivalent structured language analytical software for statistical analysis and manipulation of very large data sets.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.), ideally using macros.
    • Exposure to the financial drivers on the income statement and/or product pricing levers.

    Head Operations & Channel Support

    Job description

    Provide leadership, strategic direction and oversight of the Operations and Channel Support function by planning, directing and coordinating effective operational processes, policies and governance to ensure for integrated channel support and optimal utilisation of shared services.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Provide on-going advice and direction within the Operational & Channel Support environment in terms of procedure, policies, legislative and regulatory operational management whilst maintaining the appropriate commercial and regulatory balance;
    • Actively work to integrate the internal supply chain for all back office and support functions in WFS;
    • Work with the key stakeholders, in conjunction with the COO, to improve service delivery and on-going support for the business unit and ensure optimal utilisation of shared services;
    • Contribute to a service culture which builds rewarding relationships, proposes innovations and allows others to provide exceptional client service;
    • Foster a healthy vertical and horizontal business processes that ensure efficient and effective client delivery within set expectations and agreed performance standards in the area of accountability and the overall optimisation of the WFS value chain;
    • Actively promote the collaborative engagement of internal and external stakeholders of Woolworths and Barclays Africa including suppliers, clients, service providers and business partners;
    • Ensure effective financial management, control and corporate governance; and
    • Take accountability for the management of business related risks within own area and identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the operations environment..

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

    • A relevant Business/Commercial degree.
    • Postgraduate degree

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    • 8 + years relevant experience in an operations and/or call centre environment
    • 8 + years management experience

    PREFERRED

    • Experience in Financial Services industry is preferred
    • Knowledge of WFS products and services
    • Development and execution of operational strategies that benchmark favorably in the sales and customer services industry

    FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

    • Broad cross functional experience in operations or call centre environment
    • Ability to work within in a face-paced and rapidly changing environment with proven track record in delivery of cost effective and top quality client services
    • Budget management with a strong focus on cost reduction
    • Expertise in strategy, planning and development
    • Ability to manage strategic relationships with alliance partners and service providers
    • Create, implement, monitor and review tactical strategic plans
    • Facilitation and Negotiation – effective at managing and influencing discussion and debate at a senior level
    • Understanding and awareness of the retail credit industry – able to challenge and debate local and industry issues
