Job Purpose:
Co-ordinates and controls specialised/technical plumbing tasks/activities.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Co-ordinates specific pre-work / site requirements with regards to installation, repairs and maintenance sequences and guides the activities of personnel.
- Completes internal procedural documentation such as time sheets, log sheet, progress and productivity field reports, claims etc and related forms.
- Co-ordinates activities/sequences associated with the trouble shooting / fault finding reasons for disruption in the supply of water.
- Coordinates activities and sequences associated with repairing and restoring the functionality of water systems and components.
- Supervision and control of subordinate staff.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Artisan Plumber or Water Service Hand in terms of relevant legislation.
- Valid motor vehicle driver’s licence (Code EB).
- Certification in Basic First Aid and Basic Safety to be completed within 6 to 12 months from date of appointment.
- 2 Years relevant experience.
Special Conditions:
- Required to work in all weather conditions.
- Required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime.
- Required to be on standby.
- Posts of Artisan (Plumber)/Senior Artisan (Plumber) are interchangeable within the Unit at the discretion of the Head.

Job Purpose:
Manages, supervises and motivates Senior Technologists, Technologists, Senior Technicians, Technicians and Standards Assessors within the relevant Technology Services Division.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Manage the division.
- Provide a consulting service to various divisions within eThekwini Electricity.
- Prepare, write and revise technical Codes of Practices and Work Procedures for construction, operation and maintenance of electrical systems of up to 275 000V.
- Prepare, write and revise documented work processes relating to technical systems.
- Provide a quality control function.
- Detailed research and investigate new methods of electrical construction, repair and maintenance.
- Prepare and update technical specifications for electrical materials, equipment and services, relating to construction, operation and maintenance.
- Provide technical advice and expertise to various divisions within the Electricity Unit.
- Liaise with suppliers, potential suppliers, municipalities, utilities and other authorities and attend meetings.
- Undertake specialist calculations and quantitative analysis of broadly defined design projects and existing systems.
- Manages staff performance, training and development and conduct.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules.
Essential Requirements:
- Registered as a Professional Technologist (Electrical) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
- Pass a proficiency test set by the department to prove sufficient general knowledge of low voltage, medium voltage and high voltage electrical networks at the level of a Professional Engineering Technologist.
- Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code B).
- 6 Years post registration experience relevant to the electricity distribution or transmission industry.
Preferred Requirements:
7 Years post registration experience relevant to the electricity distribution or transmission industry.
Special Conditions:
- 40 hours, 5-day week.
- May be called out after hours to conduct technical investigations on site.
- Telephone Allowance.
- Permanent locomotion allowance or departmental transport at the discretion of the Head (Electricity).
- Incumbents will be subject to transfer/relocation to any of the Electricity Unit's depots or divisions required.
- Protective clothing: As per the PPE schedule.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk over rough terrain and climb ladders to undertake technical investigations on overhead line networks. Must be physically capable of carrying out the duties of the post.
