    Production Manager Shift

    Job description

    Scope Of Responsibilities

    Shift managers are experienced individuals who lead, coach, motivate, monitor employees and oversee the running of the processing operations to ensure outputs within the agreed budget, quality and safety standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and coach the processing team, mentor and drive performance, resolve conflict, manage absenteeism, develop succession and personal development plans.
    • Maintain and control all areas of GMP, occupational health safety and hygiene as well as food safety and HACCP. It involves ensuring that BOS’s and risk assessments and investigation reports are timeously conducted and submitted as required.
    • Ensure that equipment is timeously maintained and efficiencies are achieved above 80%.
    • Ensure full conformance to quality standards and specifications.
    • Maintain effective, timeous and correct planning and reporting as required.
    • Create, implement, and continuously improve department processes and standards to ensure alignment, compliance, and to meet customer requirements.
    • Maintain and implement the daily and weekly production plan for processing in line with capacity, model stock and promotional activity.
    • Maintain and ensure expenditure is managed within budget.
    • Implement, manage and drive efficiencies in both departments.
    • Set, standardize and monitor key processes to improve efficiencies and reduce costs
    • Manage compliance of the planning and scheduling of the department.
    • Implements and drive plans to correct and address any issues and or non-conformances identified identifying root cause analysis and oversees specific corrective action plans.

    Prior Learning And / Experience Requirements

    • Diploma/Degree in Production Management or Operations Management
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a production environment
    • 3 years supervisory experience

    Experience In The Food Manufacturing Industry Is Essential

    • Knowledge of OHS, BCEA, LRA principles is critical
    • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
    • Assertive and results orientated
    • Excellent numeracy skills
    • Ability to perform well in a stressful environment
    • Computer literate (MS Office, SAP Proficient)

    Inspector Quality Control

    Job description

    Scope Of Responsibility

    To ensure that raw materials received, bulk and finished food prepared by Vegetable Operations Springs meets the McCain SA specifications including legal requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Sample and label raw material, bulk and finished products according to the sampling procedure;
    • Measure the temperature using a thermometer and record on the grading or inspection report where required;
    • Grade the sample according to the specification for foreign material extraneous vegetable matter, major & minor defects, size uniformity, colour variation, maturity, mass, seal quality and date code where applicable.
    • Sensory Evaluation: Cook the sample according to specified method and evaluate its flavor and texture; Compare the flavor and texture requirements of each grade with those of the retention sample;
    • Allocate a grade to the sample according to the limits or guidelines specified for each grade on the grading sheet;
    • Refer grading which are borderline between one grade and the next to the Area Leader
    • Report on non-conformances.
    • Retain samples of each product graded per shift at the beginning, middle and at the end of the shift for food review;
    • Collect samples for microbial testing as per sampling procedure;
    • Report any faulty equipment e.g. microwave ovens, stoves, tenderometer, thermometers immediately to the Area Leader
    • Carry out administrative work such as filing and report sheets
    • Computer Literacy and data capturing (SAP, RTM & PC&R).
    • Comply with Quality/Foods safety /GMP Policy Procedures and Safety Regulations.
    • Report any dangerous or potentially dangerous circumstances or conditions immediately to the Area Leader

    Prior Learning And / Experience Requirements

    • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Preference will be given to Quality/Production related Diploma/certificate holders
    • Minimum 2 years working experience in a manufacturing environment – preference will be given to frozen vegetable processing environment
    • Sound computer literacy, SAP, GMP, food safety and general safety, complimented with well developed communication and interpersonal skills will be to the incumbent’s advantage.
    • Ability to multi–task attentively under pressure is necessary whilst comprehensive computer skills are also an inherent requirement of the position.
    • Must be able to available to work shifts, over weekend and public holidays.
    • Must be willing to work in a cold environment
