    Graphic Designer

    The Location:  Based at our Cape Town office, in Westlake Business Park, Tokai.
    Package:A local competitive wage based on experience.

    Job description

    The exciting role offers the opportunity to help grow a new section of GVI.

    As our new Graphic Designer you will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of all creative elements within the marketing department, working closely with the Director of Marketing and the entire Marketing Team.

    There will be times in your GVI journey when all staff will be requested to assist with a certain project, and other times where your tasks differ from your formal job description. This is all part of the fun of working here at GVI and if you are up for the challenge we do want to hear from you. In the main however, your role and responsibilities will be as follows.

    Responsibilities:

    • You will be responsible for guiding and supporting the marketing team on all creative marketing initiatives, and will bring new ideas for design and content creation to the team using your expertise and eye for great design.
    • You will be responsible for all creative elements involved in designing and creating downloadable online material, such as PDFs, brochures, info packs and templates, and other online content such as infographics, blog graphics, landing page graphics and more.
    • You will be responsible for producing a variety of print material suitable for conferences, outreach activities and events, such as brochures, flyers, posters, banner stands and more
    • Through collaboration with the Social Media & Email Marketing Offer, you will create material suitable for all GVI social media platforms and email marketing activities
    • You will be responsible for creating and maintaining a GVI style guide, and for ensuring consistency across all initiatives within GVI.
    • You will be responsible for designing and producing wireframes of revamped or new site pages, and for their implementation across the website.
    • Through collaboration with the Director of Marketing you will continually look to improve the user experience of the website across all devices, but with a focus on mobile.
    • Through collaboration with the Director of Marketing, you will continually look for ways to optimize website metrics such as conversion rate and bounce rate.
    • You will be responsible for creating templates for the marketing team and other GVI departments, to increase efficiency and consistency across GVI.
    • You will manage other design needs such as presentations, signage, t-shirts, documentation & policies, and more as needed.
    • You will support other GVI department creative needs, by creating flyers, posters, PDFs, PowerPoints and more, as needed.
    • Other duties as agreed with your line manager

     Essential Criteria:

    • A design related degree or at least 2 years experience as an in-house designer or at a marketing agency. (We require work samples to apply for this position.)
    • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite or similar technologies.
    • Experience using WordPress.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Excellent ability to hit deadlines!
    • Experience tailoring your work for different demographics. The successful candidate must be able to tailor their work for adventurous, young students, as well as international academics.

     Desirable Criteria:

    • Experience using the Divi WordPress Theme.
    • Experience creating material for web that is mobile-, tablet-, and desktop-friendly and provides a user experience that fits on all three screens.
    • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
    • Expertise in UI/UX best practices
    • Experience A/B testing different creative solutions
    • Experience using Google Analytics
    • Experience with conversion rate and bounce rate optimisation
    • You are a GVI Alumni member.
    • Working history in or knowledge of international volunteering, internships, education and travel.
