Research Technician: Nematology at Agricultural Research Council

Job description

Key Performance Area:

• Monitor the entire National Collection of Nematodes (NCN) of about 210 000 specimens on 54000 slides, as well as the wet collection of entomophagous nematodes and the wet collection of nematode damage symptoms
• Curate slides of the National Collection of Nematodes (NCN) by re-infiltrating slides with  anhydrous glycerine
• Curate slides of the National Collection of Nematodes (NCN) by remounting slides
• Curate wet collection by refilling glass vials and bottles with 4 % formalin/FAA

Requirements:

• National Diploma (3 years) or equivalent NQF5; or a relevant 2 year qualification at a recognised institution plus 2 years nematological experience.
• Registration with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions) a valuable addition;
• Must be computer-literate (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook);
• Must be able to do physical work such as field surveys and extraction of nematodes from soil and plant samples
