    Project Engineer

    Job Description

    In Sub-Saharan Africa, SNC-Lavalin has a proven track record of delivering projects across all four of our sectors of operation including oil and gas, mining and metallurgy, infrastructure and power. We have long-standing relationships with leading national and international companies across the region including Sasol, Chevron, Eskom, Transnet, PetroSA, Engen and Scatec Solar. In South Africa, we have supported Sasol’s flagship refinery in Secunda since the early 1990s and we have grown to become the largest shutdown contractor in the country. Currently we are in the second year of a five-year shutdown management and execution services agreement on the Natref Refinery.

    Please note that we are specifically looking for candidate who are based in the Western Cape area.

    Education & Skills:

    • Minimum of a completed National Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Must possess a minimum of 5 years' relevant petrochemical experience specifically within maintenance and shutdowns
    • Must be computer literate, specifically being able to work with MS Word and MS Excel
    • Must have a solid understanding of planning and commercial aspects of the scope of work
    • Solid knowledge of HSSE, Quality and Compliance standards

    Competencies:

    • Must be able to make decisions in a timely manner and under tight deadlines
    • Able to lead and build teams by creating a strong morale and sense of belonging within the team
    • Must possess strong analytical skills and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the 'bigger picture"
    • Must be able to impart and share knowledge with others in the team
    • Client centric and results driven with the ability to focus on and meet client needs

    Responsibilities:

    • Agree short and long term milestones with the Site Manager during Shutdown Plan and Prep
    • Review any resources and technical services required on site
    • Revise and keep all plans up to date prior to commencement of the shutdown and ensure that all instructions or details of work are made available to all shutdown personnel
    • Document the shutdown programme and monitor progress - advise planning and QS of any variations or delays
    • Liaise with Material Controllers at all times to ensure stock levels are kept at the required levels
    • Ensure that shift hand-over meetings are handled correctly and all relevant issues are resolved / discussed with the relevant personnel
    • Liaise and interact with the client onproject progress and highlight any difficulties encountered on site
