    Engineering Site Supervisor

    Job description

    Job Introduction

    ALE is the abbreviation for “Abnormal Load Engineering”. Our engineers are at the heart of our business, and are critical to our continued success.

    This is a leadership role for candidates that enjoy working with people and getting the best out of a team. As an Engineering Site Supervisor in ALE SA your leadership skills will be key in ensuring your team go home safely and motivated after achieving the milestones of the day and playing their part towards the successful delivery of the project requirements. You will be involved in project planning, reporting back to the Project Manager on project progress and general updates.

    The Engineering Site Supervisor will also be tasked with supervising the project team, and dealing with any HR issues that arise. Communication is key for this position, and it will require constant communication with our clients.

    HSQE is of utmost importance, therefore the as the Engineering Site Supervisor, you will be required to make sure that the project team fulfills ALE’s HSQE requirements. Majority of your time will be spent on site, traveling as and how the projects require.

    Role Responsibility

    • Please ensure you read through the requirements and preferred experience and skills before applying:

    HR
    • Lead and mentor your team balancing the business and individual requirements
    • Communicate business updates and messages as required
    • Review and sign-off of timesheets
    • Sort out payroll issues with in the project team
    • Discipline the project team when needed
    HSQE
    • Conduct HSQE audits
    • HSQE Project Audits
    • Ensure all equipment (Rigging, vehicles etc.) are inspected and tested, ready to use with the needed certificates available.
    • Ensure that the project team stays within the legal amount of overtime.
    • Inspect client loads for any damage (Quality Control).
    • Capture HSQE observations
    • Keep the project team safe, and adhering to the safety rules.
    • Create a project specific risk assessment.
    • Ensure your team is aware of the execution method to follow (Method Statements)
    • Ensure your team is aware of the risk involved with the work they are executing (Risk Assessments)
    • Perform Toolbox talks and complete DSTI’s.
    PLANNING
    • Be one step ahead of the operations. (By the end of the day, you need to know what must happen the next day, and who will do it with what equipment)
    • Toolbox talk ready for next day & DSTI’s
    • Monitoring and plan overtime to ensure the work for the week can be completed.
    • Be proactive and make changes on the go to ensure targets are achieved.
    • Plan & Manage third-party plant equipment.
    REPORTING
    • Complete a record of daily events, and send it to the PM / Client
    • Give feedback on the suitability of engineering documents
    • Ensure that the Method of Change procedure is followed correctly & records are kept & sent to the correct people.
    • Give feedback to the PM / relevant party if there is a change to the original project plan.
    • Report equipment which was damaged / stolen on the project.
    Supervision
    • Oversee all operational work, including but not limited to;
    • Transport activities
    • Rigging activities
    • Gantry activities
    • Jacking activities
    • Skidding activities
    • Crane activities
    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    Qualifications / Knowledge - Essential
    • Diploma (or higher) in Mechanical / Megatronic / Civil or Structural Engineering
    Qualifications / Knowledge – Desireable
    • Legal Liability Training
    • Incident Investigation
    • Risk Assessment Training
    • First Aid Training
    • Fire Fighting Training
    • Route Cause Analysis Technique
    Experience - Essential
    • Site Experience Preferred

    • Site experience in a similar industry
    • Management of a team
    • Traveling for extended periods

    • Intermediate Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook
    • Report Writing

    • Experience of hydraulics
    • Equipment licenses (Forklift, truck, crane…)
    • Clear understanding of the relevant equipment and its use
