ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Sygnia is looking to employ a Senior Risk Manager to manage and maintain the risk management system of the Sygnia Group.

This position will report to the Finance Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Development and maintenance of an effective risk management framework across the Sygnia Group in line with prevailing regulation and requirements of the Board of Directors of Sygnia Limited

• Provide leadership, direction and execution of the risk management activities of the business and manage the statutory and Board requirements relevant to the risk management function

• Establish and quantify the organisation’s “risk appetite”

• Identify and develop process, procedures and systems to manage company-wide risks, with particular emphasis on operational and administration risks

• Take responsibility for the identification, assessment and management of existing and emerging risks and undertake risk improvement mitigation strategies

• Conducting regular hands-on internal audits of processes, work methods and systems with the view to identifying potential areas of risk, with particular emphasis on administration and operational risks and their financial impact on the business. Introducing and monitoring such controls as are required to management and mitigate these risks.

• Work jointly with the relevant business managers and divisions to manage risk

• Development of operational strategies and tactics that will assist Sygnia in the management of financial risks. Identification and recommendation of risk mitigation actions and strategies across the business.

• Statutory risk reporting to regulators where required for Sygnia Life and the Sygnia Group

• Risk Reporting to the Group Risk Committee and the Board of Sygnia

• Provide support, education and training to all staff to build risk awareness within the organisation

• Liaising with Internal audit and assisting in determining the focus of the internal audit plan for the year.

Requirements

• Strong risk management experience (internal audit background will be given a preference)

• Knowledge and practical experience regarding the implementation of risk management framework/strategies in broad-based financial services firms similar to Sygnia

• Practical experience in interacting with business executives and relevant board committees (e.g. Audit committee and Risk Committee) regarding risk management matters and have acted as an expert company custodian regard risk management matters.

• Experience in guiding, facilitating and coaching managers on risk matters

• Strong analytical skills and a good eye for detail

• Ability to understand broad business issues

• Exposure to BN158 of 2014 would be advantageous

• Ability to work independently at a strategic level

• A hands-on approach to risk management rather than a theoretical one

Qualifications

• A post graduate qualification in Auditing/ Finance related field

• At least 5 years in a previous risk management/internal audit position
