    Scientist

    Job description

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    • Train and collaborate with other warhead scientists.

    • Gather and evaluate terminal ballistic test data for incorporation within RDM codes.

    • Train and collaborate with external contractor to gain proficiency in the use of AVAL (and other codes) to create target (and simplified vulnerability) models both within the surface target and aerial target portfolios. Gain proficiency in AVALCAD.

    • Interact and liaise with local and international clients to acquire system level data to conduct lethality / vulnerability studies.

    • Critically evaluate data, conduct sensitivity and trade-off studies and produce technical notes and reports.

    • Conduct concept warhead lethality studies and provide input parameters for warhead designers.

    • Derive and construct warhead specifications from customer requirements to be used in warhead arena tests.

    • Contribute and attend local and international symposia, conferences and publish research articles. 

    POST REQUIREMENTS:

    • MSc (or PhD) in Applied Mathematics / Physics (strong Mathematics background) or equivalent NQF level 9 technical qualification.

    • Two to three years of experience in a development environment will be an advantage.

    • Experience in an armaments or other high tech. industry will be an advantage.

    • Experience w.r.t explosives / explosives items will be an advantage.

    • Computer literacy (MS Office).

    • Essential computer skills: Excel (Advanced level), MATLAB (or equivalent)

    • Advantageous computer skills: MCAD software.

    • Able to work independently and interactively as a member of a team.

    • Good communication skills (verbal, written, presentation & interpersonal).

    • Self-motivated with creative and innovative mind.

    • Willingness to travel for short durations locally and abroad.
