    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer: Mathematics/Physics

    Job description

    The Academic Development Programme in Engineering at the University of Cape Town is responsible for teaching the 1st and 2nd year courses in mathematics and physics to engineering students who have chosen to lighten their load and take 5 years to graduate. The staff members in this programme teach courses that have additional contact time.

    Requirements:

    A Master’s degree in mathematics / physics / engineering

    OR

    • A Master’s degree in mathematics education / physics education / engineering education
    • A PhD degree is a minimum requirement for Senior Lecturer
    • Experience in lecturing or tutoring mathematics / physics at university
    • Ability to communicate well
    • Ability to work in a team, but with substantial individual administrative responsibilities

    Advantage:

    A higher degree in mathematics education or science education and research interests in Academic Educational Development.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lecture 2nd year mathematics (vector calculus) / 1st year physics to engineering students
    • Conduct research
    • Participate in committee work
    • Contribute towards the smooth running of the unit by participating in staff meetings, taking on academic and administrative responsibilities as required and being a team member
