Associate - Agribusiness and Market Development at Genesis Analytics

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The main purpose of the job is for the candidate to maintain a good working relationship with clients, specifically multilateral donors such as the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Swiss Development Corporation (SIDA) and other bilateral and multilateral donors as well as subcontractors on Genesis projects.

The incumbent is primarily responsible for the following:

• Providing support in the development of technical proposals
• Coordinating project activities of short and long term projects
• Conducting desk and field research
• Data analysis and searching for new business opportunities for the agribusiness and market development practice.

DUTIES:

• Development of technical proposals
• Backstop & coordinate project activities
• Conduct desk and field research
• Data analysis
• New business development
• Provide input in incubators
• Help identify personnel
• Give input for technical and budget proposals
• Provide support to the Partner in the coordination of project activities
• Ensure subcontractors submit their outputs within time frames
• Responsible for all the administrative duties of a project
• Be present on field research when needed
• Coordinate field team on behalf of Genesis when called upon
• Ensure that the work is done as expected as per proposal
• Establish and maintain relationship with clients through networking
• Participate in marketing trips to enhance awareness about Genesis technical competences
• Search new business opportunities in local and international media publication
• Submit specific written components of the proposal to proposal leader at agreed time
• Facilitate smooth running of the project
• Literature/background reviews
• Questionnaire design
• Conduct surveys
• Field report / research results
• Economic analysis report
• Generate new business
• Proper interpretation of project TORs
• Ongoing feed-back of outputs to project leader
• Report to be submitted as per Genesis standards within time frame

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:

• Honours Degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Agricultural Economics or related fields
• 3 – 5 years related experience
• Must have previous experience working with or for large bilateral donors such as USAID and DFID
• Good research skills
• Able to collect and analyse data on one of the statistical packages (Eview, SPSS, SAS)
• Accurate and concise
• Customer retention
• Experience in leading and conducting in-country research for upcoming donor funded projects in Africa
• Strong experience in analysing complex project terms of reference and developing a proposal framework
• Worked within the private sector will be an added advantage
• Conversant with topical matters in climate change, in particular climate smart agriculture and climate finance mechanisms such as UNFCC, GEF and GCF
• Flexible and prepared to work flexible hours in varying environments
• Willing to travel extensively in sub-Saharan Africa
• Strong communication sills
• Ability to work within a diverse environment
• Good negotiation skills
• A good knowledge of local and/or regional language would be an advantage
