    Business Development Director Africa

    Job Description

    An opening has arisen for a driven, energetic and personable Business Development Director within the Africa Region.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the business in region with P&L accountability; both for the Advanced Wound Management and Orthopaedic (Recon, Trauma and SportsMed) product lines. This includes defining and implementing local business strategies to maximize customer acceptance, market penetration, sales growth and profitability of the whole Smith & Nephew product portfolio. This role also involves identifying current and future market trends and business opportunities as well as eexecuting the strategy through a state-of-the-art Sales Force Effectiveness program.

    The incumbent will be expected to:

    • Provides leadership to the team by coaching and reviewing performance on an ongoing basis
    • Executes business strategies to grow the business, with compliance, and respecting OPEX & profitability objectives
    • Responsible for pricing, tenders, and follow-up of business deals
    • Manage distributors’ activities: ensure proper training, commercial strategy, sales forecast, performance follow-up, sales force effectiveness tools…
    • Analyses sales, trends, competitors’ actions and customer needs

    Develop relationships and productive teamwork in the Region:

    • Develop excellent relationships with Key Opinion Leaders
    • Develop excellent relationships with S&N distributors
    • Develop excellent relationships with key non-clinical stakeholders
    • Responsible for the launch and rollout of new products and services, execute state-of-the-art product launches’ process
    • Spend above 60% of the time on the field.

    Job Requirements:

    • Analytical thinking: systematic gathering, organizing and synthesizing of relevant information.
    • Good clinical and product understanding, to convey information to different audiences (field organizations, customers).
    • Project Management Skills: ability to drive projects in an organized and timely manner, with necessary follow-up and interaction with other involved departments.
    • Performance and results driven: ability to identify and quickly respond to opportunities and difficulties.
    • Customer and Marketplace: desire and ability to anticipate and address the needs of customers (internal or external) through timely program/project implementation.
    • Communication/Presentation skills: ability to effectively explain, describe, and convey information in a variety of formal and informal presentation settings.

    Teamwork/Collaboration: intention and ability to work effectively with others toward shared goals.

    • Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) / Quality responsibility:
    • Complies with all HSE and quality policies and procedures as required by job function and completes all required HSE and quality training.

    Minimum Entry Requirements

    Education

    • Matric
    • Post Graduate Degree Preferred
    • Experience
    • Proven Business Development Experience within the Africa Region
    • Proven experience in Under Developed Markets and Third Party Distributors in the Medical or similar Industry.
