    Research Project Manager

    Job description

    From March to August this year, a team of dynamic health economists and clinical researchers will conduct field work in public clinics in ten low income communities in Cape Town to investigate how tuberculosis patients make decisions and how nudges could help promote better decisions. We want to recruit a talented, bright, highly motivated and committed research project manager to help steer this high-impact and intellectually challenging research.

    This is an important opportunity for a promising scholar with a strong academic background and an interest in behavioural economics. The selected candidate will be working alongside top international health economics researchers on a large project funded by the World Bank, Gates Foundation and Stellenbosch University.

    The salary will be competitive and market related ranging between R20 000 to R24 000 (pre-tax) per month (depending on the qualifications of the candidate). This is a 6-month contract but with the possibility of extending the contract to include further work on other health policy projects for the team.

    The team is looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and pragmatic problem solver who can plan and run an intensive six-month research project, anticipate and solve daily problems and manage and motivate a diverse team of people. The research project manager will spend at least one day per week visiting clinics where the field work is conducting.

    Requirements

    • Economics postgraduate qualification
    • Driver's license

    Preferences

    • Strong academic performance in Masters degree in Economics
    • Fluency in Xhosa or Afrikaans
    • Expertise and experience in health policy and behavioural economics
    • Skilled and experienced user of Stata
    • Skilled user of SurveyCTO or other survey programming software
    • Experience managing teams

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the recruitment process of field workers
    • Liaise with WCDOH partners at the Cape Town clinics
    • Supervise and manage contracts with technology and creative contractors and providers
    • Ensure data quality by regularly meeting with field workers to go through their completed questionnaires
    • Give regular feedback to the rest of the research team and drive the problem solving where new issues are encountered
    • Clean and manage data
    • Analyse and write-up preliminary results
