Who we are

MFS Africa is the leading digital payments hub in Africa. The company works in close partnership with mobile network operators and financial institutions to bring simple and relevant payment services to un- and under-banked people. MFS Africa connects over 120 million mobile money users across sub-Saharan Africa through its platform - the MFS Hub.

Our API

• As a B2B platform company, the MFS Hub processes cross-border remittances, merchant payments, airtime top-ups, detects fraud, and runs a world-class backoffice operation; all driven by our API. Our engineers work on the business logic for all of that.
• You'll be making some of the most important decisions for the company. You'll get to work with other engineers to build delightful features that span various parts of the system, as well as with our business, sales, compliance and operations teams, to understand and solve our users' pain points.

The role

• As a Senior Product Manager - API, you will design, build and expand our API features to enable our partners to launch new markets, payment methods, and capabilities. Our job is to handle the subtleties of payment processing through mobile wallets and relentlessly improve our API to make this possible.
• In addition, UI is essential to achieving our API-vision. We build interfaces that are intuitive and delightful, and we love to sweat the details.
• We're looking for people with a strong background or interest in building successful products or systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable in dealing with lots of moving pieces, has exquisite attention to detail, and is comfortable learning new technologies and systems.

This position is based in Johannesburg.

Job activities

• Own the vision, development, and delivery of the API
• Balance product vision with customer feedback to form a coherent product strategy, including design, user requirements, market assessments, and scalable delivery plan
• Contribute to the overall product roadmap, and manage prioritization and tradeoffs against developer experience, customer experience, and time to market
• Write product requirement documents and ensure clear communication and coordination of requirements to the business, development teams
• Create buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners
• Establish business processes and policies as well as metrics and indicators for success
• Measure and analyze existing products and business models for opportunities to innovate and improve, providing additional benefits to developers and customers
• Drive product launches including working with IT, testing, public relations, executives, and other internal and external stakeholders

• Have a proven track record of acting as SME for API projects
• Have demonstrated acumen and experience in product/solution in online payments, e-commerce, billing, card processing, banking
• Have a broad technical background including mobile technology, web, web services and back-end application infrastructure

• Are passionate about (and have previous experience in) API design, consistency, structured code and high quality documentation
• Thrive in a diverse, collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts

• Know Agile/Scrum
• Have an MS or BS in Computer Science or equivalent
