    Network Communications Engineer

    Mission System's Field Engineering Team is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support our program in Northern Africa. The network is utilized for both data and voice protocols and contain legacy serial and TDM controllers that are integrated with state of the art IP based network management.

    This highly visible position requires a strong technical background, solid understanding of our customer expectations and the ability to work comfortably and effectively with team members as well as customer technical personnel and senior customer leadership. This includes remotely interfacing with the extended program team located in Linthicum, MD for taking direction and collaboration. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills are essential.

    The candidate will work to maintain smooth operation of local area, world wide and virtual private networks (VPN). Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication networks. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning. May design network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.

    • Field assignment is expected to last approximately two years

    Position may be offered at a Level 5 for candidates with exceptional qualifications.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor's in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math Field and 9 years of related experience OR a Masters in a STEM Field with 7 years related experience OR a PhD in a STEM Field with 4 years related experience
    • Willing to travel long-term OCONUS supporting a non-US customer
    • Active Secret Clearance
    • Strong oral and written communication skills for generating presentations and technical memos
    • Interacting directly with various customer personnel in technical and senior leadership positions as network Subject Matter Expert
    • Experience configuring and/or managing enterprise level networks
    • Strong experience with Cisco routers and switches – specifically familiarity with the following protocols:
    • EIGRP, Multicast (PIM, IGMP, MSDP, SSM), OSPF, QoS, GRE, HSRP
    • TACACS
    • NTP
    • ACL’s
    • Experience with TDM Multiplexers
    • T1/E1
    • FXO/FXS
    • RS-422/EIA-530
    • E&M
    • Complex network integration & troubleshooting
    • Use of tools such as Wireshark
    • IP Voice Solutions
    • Cisco Unified Communications Manager
    • Call Manager Express
    • SIP
    • Integrating TDM Voice PBX with IP Voice solutions
    • Experience working with networks containing IP encryption devices

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor's in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math Field and 14 years of related experience OR a Masters in a STEM Field with 12 years related experience OR a PhD in a STEM Field with 9 years related experience
    • French/Arabic Language Skills
    • Experience working with international customers
    • Cisco ASA Firewalls / VPN
    • Alcatel TiMOS Devices
    • SDH / SONET
    • Air Traffic Control Voice Communication Systems
    • Enterprise network management solutions (e.g. Cisco Prime, Cisco ACS, Cisco Security Manager)
