What you will do in the role

As a DevOps Engineer, you will take a leading role in instilling a DevOps culture within the larger tehnology team, mentoring engineers, setting best practices and looking to the future of system engineering practises that might apply to the technology team at Prodigy. You will lead by example, ensuring that the rest of the technology team is working with your vision. This is a specialized role, half trail-blazer, half coach.

Specific responsibilities are to:

• Teach and mentor DevOps to other engineers within the technology team
• Set DevOps best practices for the technology team as a whole, enabling them to implement these practices in their daily work.
• Ensure all teams comply with due diligence requirements for security, data integrity, privacy and continuity of business
• Document and explain best practices to the broader technology team

What you need to be great at

• Ability to influence and mentor the team and create a DevOps culture
• Ability to pick up new tools quickly
• Excellent communication skills and a strong team working ethic
• Ability to automate provisioning and maintenance of infrastructure in a cloud environment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem solving ability
• Involvement working in an Agile development team
• Experience with JIRA or another ticket tracking system
• Experience with GitHub or similar online code respositories

Who we are looking for; track record must haves

• A solid understanding and working experience with an enterprise cloud service provider
• Experience in automating builds and deployments
• Experience with monitoring, logging and alerting solutions
• Understanding of networks, protocols, servers, storage systems, operating systems
• Good knowledge of at least one programming language
• A track record of deploying and managing microservices
• Experience with container orchestration
• Understanding of data integrity, security and continuity of business
• Experience that would be nice to have (but we’ll trade off if everything else fits)
• Ideally you will have substantial experience working with Amazon AWS specifically
• Experience with specific technologies currently used within the business such as Ruby on Rails, Python and RabbitMQ
• Experience with data analysis pipelines (Spark, Storm )
