    HR Manager

    Job description
    Overview

    The HR Manager for Bain Africa directs activities across core functional areas of Human Resources providing professional HR advice and support to the Johannesburg and Lagos offices.

    Specific responsibilities will include ensuring the consistent application of HR policies and procedures throughout the business, managing employment issues, providing employee relations and employment law advice and guidance to the Leadership Team, and managing the HR department to high standards. A key advisor and influencer to all leaders of the business.

    Responsibilities

    • Employee Relations & HR Policies;
      • Take leadership role in minimizing employee risk management
      • keep abreast of existing/changing employment laws to ensure that all policies/practices align with local employment law requirements
      • advises/educates management as necessary
      • Act as main point of contact for all employee relations issues
      • be available to employees to raise related concerns confidentially
      • provide counselling, guidance and coaching for employees, helping them handle difficulties and diffusing situations.
      • Provide counselling and guidance to supervisors, helping them handle difficult team issues
      • takes lead role in any investigations, advice and actions
      • Respond to employee concerns; acts as an ombudsman and “eyes and ears” of office or region (morale, culture, overall employee satisfaction)
      • Responsible for all HR policies; keeping these up to date and relevant, ensure these are communicated to all employees
    • CSS HR and PD;
      • Work closely with CSS management to develop and roll-out PD/training programs and activities for CSS employees
      • Manage the annual PD process for all CSS employees; work closely with supervisors to navigate the process and systems, ensure PD review compliance, run calibration meetings with the CSS PD committee and formalize all decisions made by the CSS PD committee (incl. final PD ratings, compensation changes and promotions)
      • Ensure all compensation changes are documented and communicated to payroll
    • Global Mobility & Immigration;
      • Manage the immigration team to ensure compliance of all visa/work permit requirements (for new employees and transfers) in both South Africa and Nigeria
      • Work closely with Global Mobility team to manage all transfers (inbound and outbound) and ensure consistency with global transfer policies
    • Compensation & Benefits;
      • Manage the compensation review processes for all staff (Consulting twice a year, CSS annually), including the calculation of bonuses
      • Implement compensation principles for all employees; ensure all compensation changes are documented and communicated to payroll
      • Work closely with Benefit brokers to regularly review benefit programmes to manage costs and ensure best service to employees
    • Performance Management;
      • Regularly align with Staffing team and CSS Managers to manage potential performance issues
    • Manage performance improvement processes for all staff (consulting and CSS) ensuring legal compliance
    • Exit Management;
      • Manage employee exits ensuring legal compliance, exit interviews and any transitions
    • HR Team Management;
      • Manage daily operations of the HR department reflecting the highest levels of service orientation
      • coach and develop 3 HR team members
      • ensure highest-quality of HR processes; keep HR processes and systems under constant review to ensure high levels of customer service, efficiency and accuracy
      • Manage HR departmental budget (for Johannesburg & Lagos) ensuring spend is aligned to the business needs
    • Global/EMEA HR Team member;
      • Actively participates as member of worldwide HR Manager team
      • participation in regional HR Manager calls and annual WW HR Manager meeting
      • ad hoc project work and experience sharing as necessary
      • These responsibilities are by no means exhaustive and the HR Manager will be expected to be involved in additional projects/tasks as required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management/Psychology or Business related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of all functional areas of Human Resources typically gained through at least 8 years of HR experience
    • Experience in a professional services environment is highly desirable
    • Demonstrated experience acting as a trusted advisor to management regarding HR issues such as performance, employee relations, organization, morale, legal compliance etc.
    • Excellent client relationship management skills
    • Demonstrated experience resolving complex employee relations issues with sound business judgment, who manages processes to completion/drives to closure
    • Comprehensive knowledge of South African employment legislation and practical application of employment policies to meet South African requirements
    • Strong analytic capabilities and comfort with numbers & data, including ability to use data to generate insights and recommend actions
    • Ability to interact with employees (at all levels) in a fast paced environment, under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with the highest levels of professionalism
    • Strong customer orientation and interpersonal skills
