Senior Specialist: Vas Packet Core Support at Vodacom

Job description

The role of the Senior Specialist: Vas Packet Core Support is to conduct in depth packet analysis of complex core operational issues (degraded throughput and packet loss). Take lead in handling major faults and escalations (office/after hours); including guidance in providing solutions in quick time. Interaction with other departments, like Service Development, OSS IN, CDN, NMC, Transmission, Vodacom Business and WAP Gateway/Bytes Mobile. Fine tuning and optimising protocols within Packet core system for an optimal and efficient packet flow (using parameters like TCP, UDP, etc). Pre-empting operational issues before service is impacted, by studying and analysing daily and weekly performance reports. Internal and external audits, e.g. SOX.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• 3GPP; ITIL; TCP/IP protocols. GGSN/SGSN/EPC/DNS/CUR/ACG/PCRF/NPP/LINUX/UNIX advanced skills.
• Delivering Results and Exceeding Customer Expectations.
• Provide high level support and uptime.
• Maintain systems & systems availability
• Change Management Procedures.
• Ensure system security.
• Managed system performance and capacity.
• Wireshark traces and interpretation of results.
• Scripting/coding in any of the following will be beneficial: Bash, C, PHP, Perl.

The Ideal Candidate For This Role Will Have

• Matric/ Grade 12 (Essential).
• Degree or National diploma in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Essential).
• 4 – 8 years’ experience on Linux/Unix based systems.
• 4 – 8 years’ experience in GSM, SS7, TCP/IP.
• Experience on the Microsoft Office package i.e. MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point (Essential )
• 4-8 years’ experience on Cisco systems such as Evolved Packet Core.

In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will have an in depth knowledge and understanding

SS7 Knowledge
GSM, UMTS, LTE and WI-FI knowledge

The base location for this role is Midrand, Corporate Park.
