    Manager Asset Disposal Unit (EE)

    Job description

    ESSENTIAL Experience

    Commercial Asset Finance and commercial property experience – sales, strategy and administrative process expertise.

    Overall Job Purpose:

    Oversee the activities of the Asset Disposal unit ensuring that values are optimised on asset sales within the shortest period.

    Key Accountabilities:

     

    • Accountability: Management of Distressed Assets
      • Oversee the activities of the Asset Disposal Unit such that:
      • The management of all distressed assets is optimised along the theme of “Maximise Values, Do it fast”;
      • Leadership is provided on the creation of strategies, together with the Manager: CAF Collections and Manager: CAF Legal Recovery Services, focused on facilitating the movement of all assets classified as “Assets not in possession” into the “Assets in possession” within the shortest possible time. Ensure that these strategies are executed as planned and that proper reporting and measurement is in place;
      • Provide oversight for the activities of the Specialists: Collateral Management such that the departments goals are achieved and exceeded whilst maintaining a sound control environment and good risk governance;
      • Support is provided to other departments within CAF Collections and Recoveries on matters pertaining to restructures of irregular accounts, settling matters involving liens and / or retentions and the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date Asset Register;
      • All Policies, Standards, Procedures and Process maps relevant to the ADU department are kept up to date and are strictly adhered to;
      • Stock takes are carried out as prescribed (and are accurate) and that assets are at all times properly accounted for;
      • Current trends in best practise on Asset Management and in market conditions relating to the sale of assets are monitored and that the impact on the unit or the potential impact is understood and the departments goals proactively adjusted to take account of these;
      • Expert advice is provided to all stakeholders and staff on matters pertaining to the disposal of assets including taking such assets into possession, clearing these for sale and the sale of said assets;
      • The management of assets with Alliances and Joint Ventures is maximised in the same manner as those of the CAF assets as described above.
    • Accountability: Business Management
      • Coach and support members of the team by assisting in their technical and personal development;
      • Monitor that all staff adhere to all governance and compliance requirements;
      • Proactively adapt, execute and implement change initiatives agreed with senior management in support of the departments goals;
      • Develop and maintain key management information to provide an understanding of (1) Key Performance Indicators, (2) Productivity Measurements for the department and on an individual staff level;
      • Act as a key member of the CAF Collections and Recoveries management team providing insight and a contribution the management of the business unit;
      • Provide strategic insights and direction to the Head: CAF Collections & Recoveries on all business matters including insights into the type of assets which should be financed and what conditions should be set per asset class. Utilise specialist knowledge of asset prices to inform policy formulation including the setting of impairment policy.
    • Accountability: Customer Service
      • Develop and maintain sound business relationships with suppliers and role players in the asset disposal chain;
      • Manage & maintain internal relationships within Absa such that the objectives of the ADU department & CAF Recoveries and Collections are maximised;
      • The relationships with Auctioneers, Valuations specialists, RMO’s, EDC’s and other Service Providers is maximised in line with the departments goals
      • Accountability: People Management
      • Develop a high performing team by conducting daily/weekly/monthly operational performance discussions and assisting employees to prepare the portfolio of evidence for formal performance development discussions.
      • Based on training plans agreed with staff in the area, monitor team members to ensure that planned compliance training is undertaken.
      • Establish and maintain a succession plan for direct reports.
      • Together HR Business Partner, interview candidates and provide input into the recruitment decision for recruitment purposes.
      • Review and update the team’s role profiles on an annual basis to ensure that they are fit for purpose and contain all the accountabilities of each team member. Explain any updates to team members.
      • Review leave captured on the employee system (ESS) to ensure that all leave was captured.
      • Monitor overtime and ensure that it is kept to a minimum. Ensure that all overtime is pre-approved.
      • When required, initiate and facilitate disciplinary processes for team members.
      • Execute EOS (Employee Opinion Survey) action items as assigned.
      • Accountability: All other duties as reasonably assigned by Line Manager

     

    Education and Experience Required:

    Education

    • B.Com (Accountancy, Business Economics)
    • Diploma in Credit / Financial Management
    • Post Graduate Qualification (Banking, Legal, Business Qualification)

    Experience Required

    • A minimum of 10 (Ten) year’s banking experience
    • Experience leadership position
    • Ability to function independently, across functional levels and on a matrix basis
    • 5 (Five) years working experience in an Asset Finance environment.
    • Working experience of RBB Business Market Credit and Impairment policies
    • Working knowledge of Legal background in terms of insolvencies / liquidations / commercial litigation.

    Prefernce will be given to EE candidates.
