Senior Instrument Technician at Sappi

Job description

Sappi Stanger Mill requires a suitably Senior Instrument Technician to provide high level technical support to the instrument maintenance department, specifically relating to plant optimization and fault diagnosis in order to maximize the availability of the plant.

• Designs instrument loop drawings for new installations previously not on record.
• Maintenance of process controller hardware and DCS control structure.
• Configure I/O points, Change I/O ranges and block requested signals.
• Interpret existing system configuration and programming in order to fault find and make modifications.
• Update and Modifies existing loop drawings indicating the changes made to the loop.
• Understands and interprets electrical line/interface diagrams.
• Fault-finding malfunctions of field devices and system components with the aid of loop diagrams and test equipment.
• Using technical expertise to pinpoint failures related to the system components.
• Troubleshoot on DCS software and hardware as well as perform software changes.
• Maintain documentation of change to software and hardware.
• Perform system backups for Siemens Wincc DCS system for section as required.
• Backup the Control Structure and Functional Structure for the respective process stations.
• Performs field instrumentation work as and when required, during standby duties, during backing up for artisans and when working on the environmental section.
• Manages PMRS in respect of any plant modifications and control system changes as required

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• Minumum of 3 years industrial experience
• S4 National Diploma in Instrumentation with 3 years’ experience OR N6 instrumentation with 5 – 10 years’ experience.
• Computer Literate (MS Office) and SAP proficient
