    Director Business Development & Marketing - Toxicology

    Job description

    Overview

    The Business Development Leader's role is responsible for the identification, management and development of Toxicology channels and markets throughout the Africa region for Alere's range of Toxicology products and services.The position involves a high level of interaction with the Global Business Units and the AFRICA sales and business leaders to develop new markets, expand existing businesses, launch new products, enhance organic growth and achieve expected business and financial objectives. The role is located in the Africa region with an expected travel schedule of 30-40% of time per annum.

    • Technical / Operational
      • Network with key business partners (internal and external) and affiliates regularly using the most effective communications channels to support and drive achievement of regional sales targets.
      • Develop and maintain expertise within the product portfolio and platforms including a comprehensive knowledge of the Toxicology market trends and customer segments in AFRICA
      • Transfer product knowledge in AFRICA through the development of training and support programs for existing and new products .
      • Contribute to the strategic direction and business development of the Global Business Unit by regularly providing extensive regional market intelligence relevant to maximizing the product portfolio market opportunities
      • Customise and drive the regional Toxicology business strategy to accelerate Alere Toxicology products and services market penetration at the country and affiliate level.
      • Collaborate with the GBU and AFRICA marketing teams to ensure global alignment of Toxicology communications at regional congresses, customer seminars, field visits, KOL development, campaigns or other market development activity.
      • Regularly perform regional market research to identify and monitor product/customer/competitor trends relevant to the portfolio.
      • Work with marketing to customise portfolio sales tools, training programs, customer communications and activities to support the global brand strategies and AFRICA financial goals.
    • Internal Systems and Processes
      • Comply with Alere Corporate Policies and Procedures
      • Design, develop, implement and review an annual Toxicology Business plan for the AFRICA region.
      • Ensure all portfolio product and service volume forecasts are current and accurate to facilitate the S&OP (Sales and Operations Planning process)
      • Ensure all business activities are conducted professionally, aligned with local regulatory and industry guidelines and are conducted in a manner consistent with Alere and relevant country's Code of Conduct guidelines, and Alere's Anti-Corruption Policy.
    • Customers
      • Actively build relationships throughout culturally diverse organizations with collaboration, advice and support while developing trust and respect.
      • Provide field-based support to our partners and customers to assist sales growth of Alere products
      • Continually identify/monitor customer segments and develop short/medium/long term business plans to penetrate those segments.
      • Provide marketing with customer insights to better serve the existing customer base to drive organic growth/customer retention and new product uptake.
      • Build strategic customer relationships with Key Opinion Leaders
      • Lead the portfolio educational, clinical, marketing and sales processes to empower internal and external customers to achieve success.
      • Simplify complex issues with business partners and colleagues, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability and understanding of customers' evidence-based needs to provide sales/product solutions.
    • Financial
      • Establish, maintain and work within an annual budget
      • Seek approval for expenses in line with regional specific authorisation levels
      • Achieve/exceed regional portfolio revenue targets
      • Achieve/exceed regional portfolio Gross Profit targets
      • People Management and Development
      • Motivate AFRICA commercial teams to achieve relevant organisational goals
      • Undertake training and development as required.
      • Provide training and development opportunities for AFRICA colleagues to assist succession planning and knowledge sharing
    • Conduct
      • Ensure all activities carried out by self and direct reports are in accordance with legislative employment policies and safety requirements and corporate policy.
      • Promote a standard of excellence for quality and customer focus at Alere.

    Qualifications Essential·

    • Bachelor of Toxicology / Medical / Health Science or equivalent
    • International Business Development or Business Management (at least 3 years), preferably AFRICA Desirable
    • Post-Graduate qualifications in Marketing or Business
    • Experience in international business development especially in diagnostics, toxicology, drugs of abuse workplace testing or pharmaceuticals
    • Fluent in written and oral English · Experience in several key regional markets including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt
