- To manage waste disposal activities of the national radioactive waste disposal site (Vaalputs) in accordance with the Nuclear Installation License (NIL28), SHEQ-requirements, international norms, standards and best practice and all other applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

- This role requires specialized knowledge in licensing, nuclear safety, safeguards, and the transport of nuclear materials. The technician will work closely with the Section Head to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and to support the safe and efficient operation of the fuel plant.
Key Performance Areas:
Support for Maintenance of Nuclear Installation License Compliance
- Assist in implementing strategies for maintaining compliance with the Nuclear Installation License (NIL) under the guidance of the Section Head.
- Participate in internal reviews and support external inspections by preparing required documentation and facilitating access to necessary areas within the fuel plant.
- Attend training sessions on NIL requirements and assist in communicating these obligations to other staff members to ensure widespread understanding and adherence.
Support for Maintenance of Safety Analysis Reports (SARs)
- Contribute to the development and update of the Safety Analysis Reports by collecting data, documenting operational changes, and providing relevant information to the engineering and safety departments.
- Support the quality assurance processes by performing routine checks and verifications to ensure the integrity of safety analyses and the effectiveness of safety systems.
- Maintain records of updates and revisions to the SARs and assist in the communication of these changes to the relevant personnel within the fuel plant.
Support for Maintenance of Operating Technical Specifications (OTS)
- Help document and maintain the Operating Technical Specifications (OTS) by gathering information from technical experts and updating the specifications as directed by the Section Head.
- Aid in the review process of the OTS by compiling safety analysis results from analysts, feedback from operations and performance insights, ensuring updates reflect the latest operational and regulatory conditions.
- Participate in training initiatives designed to educate staff on the OTS, emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to these specifications for safe plant operations, and ensuring that knowledge is consistently applied on the job.
General Support Duties
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all licensing requirements and changes to ensure technical support is provided in line with current standards.
- Serve as a point of contact for technical queries related to NIL, SARs, and OTS within the technician team, facilitating effective communication between staff and management.

Support for Engineering Change Proposals

- Conduct regular checks and reconciliations of inventory to ensure accuracy and report any discrepancies to the Section Head promptly.
Support for Safeguards Inspections
- Prepare for and assist during safeguards inspections by organizing necessary documentation and facilitating access to materials as required.
- Support the inspection process by providing inspectors with the necessary resources and assistance while upholding security and confidentiality protocols.
- Take part in post-inspection briefings to understand findings and assist in implementing measures to enhance safeguard procedures.
Support for Accurate Reporting
- Collect and compile data for reporting to the IAEA and other bodies in accordance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty, Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, and Additional Protocol requirements.
- Verify the accuracy of information and ensure that reports are prepared and submitted within the specified deadlines.

Transport of Nuclear Materials

- Prepare and verify the accuracy and completeness of documentation required for the import and export of nuclear materials.
Support for DMRE Permit Management
- Aid in the application and renewal process for DMRE permits, ensuring that all documentation is submitted accurately and on time.
- Keep records of all permits, their expiry dates, and any associated conditions to ensure continuous compliance.
- Remain informed about updates or changes in permit requirements and assist in disseminating this information within the organization.
