Job description

To optimise the medium term profitability of their specific unsecured personal loans portfolios by setting the appropriate credit risk appetite strategy, including:

• Terms of Business.
• Scoring and Policy Rule Strategies
• Appropriate bad debt targets
• Pricing and Profitability

Requirements

• B.Sc / B.Com / Honours / Masters degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Financial Risk Management, Quantitative Risk Management, Actuarial Science or any equivalent
• Analytical mind set
• Good writtena nd verbal communication skills
• Attention to details
• Strong ability to interpret data , communicate this to and influence key stakeholders

Experience

• 5 years - Analysis, retail credit risk, reporting and modelling experience within a consumer based portfolio environment such as credit risk portfolio performance or customer value management.
• 2 years - Working knowledge and experience in using data analysis software packages such as SQL or SAS is essential
• 5 years - 2 years - Working knowledge and experience in using data analysis software packages such as SQL or SAS is essential
• 5 years - Knowledge of the credit industry and credit life cycle management is essential
• 5 years - Good working knowledge of MS Office

Accountabilities

• Budgeting and Tracking
• Accountable for performance, including all risk drivers and bad debt of the portfolio relative to agreed targets.
• Portfolio Management
• Formulate, monitor and review profitability, provisioning, production, and credit quality targets for each portfolio.
• Monitoring the risk and profitability performance of each portfolio, total customer exposure, early settlements, as well as customers’ external exposure to credit.
• Communicate findings and make recommendations to key internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct trend analysis on the portfolios to identify opportunities for growth and appropriate collections and recoveries strategies.
• Optimise and make recommendations on the Terms of Business, scorecard types, scorecard cut-offs, scorecard vendor (if external) bad debt levels and portfolio profitability
• Reporting and Analytics
• Prepare and present all reporting to internal and external stakeholders
• Work closely with scoring and modelling analytics as business owners of all models.
• Ensure alignment and manage expectations with brand performance owner(s) in terms of portfolio performance (including risk drivers, bad debt and production levels).
• Make recommendations to the brand performance owner(s) based on findings from analysis, monitoring and reporting.
• Strategy Initiatives
• Initiate appropriate Champion / Challenger strategies and use the results to inform tactical decisions that optimise portfolio performance
• Coaching and mentoring
• Mentorship and development of junior analysts may be required from time to time.
