    Desktop and Systems Support Engineer

    Job description

    The Role

    Acceleration operates state of the art IT infrastructure and software. We support both PCs and Macs (Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and OS X), as well as provide support on the major tablets and smartphones. We use a variety of software applications across the organisation and have been working in the cloud for years. Our network and infrastructure is designed in such a way that Accelerators are able to perform their duties from anywhere.

    The Desktop and Systems Support Engineer is part of a small, dedicated team responsible for ensuring that all of our hardware and software systems are running smoothly at all times. Our employees are our clients and we provide as high levels of service to them as their clients expect of them.

    Whilst the role is based in Cape Town, you will be responsible for a number of sites in EMEA; the office in Cape Town, Johannesburg, London and Barcelona, whilst assisting with overage support for offices in the US and Buenos Aires. Supporting clients out of normal office hours is not unusual. You will also work with the global IT team on global projects.

    Reporting

    The position is a full-time role based in Cape Town, reporting directly to Senior IT Operations Manager, based in Cape Town.

    Responsibilities

    • First line IT support
    • Responsible for fault finding and repair on desktop systems and mobile devices
    • Support of software used within desktop environment
    • Administer operating system (Windows PC & Mac OS X) & existing application software e.g. MS Office
    • Ensure functionality of packaged non-proprietary software
    • Ensure Virus Protection & updates to Virus Software is maintained
    • Ensure that Operating Standards and Protocols are adhered to, without default
    • Coordinate hardware/cabling repairs
    • Install and replace/upgrade new hardware/software
    • Ensure that the meeting rooms are fully operational for meetings, presentations and conference calls
    • Assisting with systems administration when tasked by IT Operations Manager
    • Testing & certification of new software & hardware
    • Provide after hours on-call support for any IT issue
    • Ensure cases logged through the helpdesk tool (or other) are attended to and resolved/updated as per priority level
    • Escalate calls to IT Operations Manager where necessary
    • Software and Operating System deployment automation
    • Procurement of IT equipment for the business
    • Maintain the company’s IT Asset Register and software licences
    • Ensure that IT risk and compliance activities are effectively managed and mitigated, and escalated to IT Management where necessary
    • Research ways of improving internal IT processes to create efficiencies within the IT team and for the business
    • Adhere to strict IT Security controls
    • Ensure that new starters are setup on their laptops and provide IT inductions on the services provided
    • Assist with IT training material and provide training to users

    Requirements

    • 1 to 2 years support experience
    • A+ or N+ Certification
    • MCP Certification or equivalent
    • Experience with Apple products highly beneficial
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse people (cultures, personalities)
    • Clear verbal and written communication skills, including a high level of business English grammar
    • Enthusiastic and confident individual with the ability to interact well with people of all levels personally and professionally
    • High energy levels and a strong team player
    • Self-driven, high performing, hands on executor and results oriented individual
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high pressure environment whilst adhering to strict IT security controls & policies
    • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills essential
    • Eager to learn and grow and apply learnings to the IT environment
