Duties
- Set up/install/configure new environments according to standards and best practice
- Suggest architectural changes in order to lower license costs and improve utilisation of hardware
- Review and maintain standards around databases
- Proactive management and planning of database capacity
- Security on database and users
- Reporting (e.g. table space etc)
- Investigate and resolve slow response issues
- Tune T-SQL queries to improve performance
- React on Alerts generated
- Conduct backups
- Manage and deploy changes to Production
- Clone various test and development environments from Prod, and sometimes across (from one UAT environment to another UAT environment)
- Root cause analysis when databases become corrupted; Resolution
- Create indexes on databases
- Restore from backup
- Morning checks on databases
- Morning checks on backups
- Ensure DR is in sync with Production
- Apply database patches as needed and requested to address specific problems
- Perform database upgrades and migrations
Skills Required
- 8+ years of demonstrated experience as a SQL Server DBA
- Demonstrated experience in working with sys admins to size servers, facilitate virtualization and manage storage
- Experience in Microsoft Azure - assessment of enterprise applications for viability for migration to cloud – nice to have
- Application log monitoring and performance tuning experience
