    Director - Information Services

    Job Description

    Premier is entering a new and exciting period in our journey. In July 2014 we moved into our new corporate offices in Waterfall City just north of Johannesburg. The past two years have seen a series of changes whereby Premier expanded from the traditional milling and baking business into sugar confectionery with brands such as Manhattan and Super C as well as home and personal care with brands such as Lil-Lets, Dove cotton wool and Vulco. We are executing our strategic intent to be a leading FMCG player in chosen geographies.
    Job description

    The purpose of this job is to provide strategic, executive leadership and oversight of the JSE’s overall information services and data businesses (which includes sales, market data products and services, indices, valuations, enterprise masterdata, reference data, statistics and analytics) and so contribute to the achievement of the JSE’s strategic priorities to maximum usability and commercialisation of data opportunities as a key growth area for the JSE.

    Qualification and Experience Required:

    Honours or Masters in Business Finance or Economics
    10 15 years having worked in the financial services industry preferably capital markets, including 6-8 years’ experience at executive level, preferably experience at a board level
    Leadership and people management skills

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure development and implementation of a JSE information services strategy across all business lines that strategically shifts the JSE's approach to information and data to ensure maximum client value, usability and monetisation of data opportunities
    • Develop divisional cost and revenue budgets (Revenue will be approx R1bn by 2022, annual operating costs of approx R300m and projects costs of R100 million) and allocate departmental cost budgets to meet profit and cost targets.
    • Ensure divisional profit and cost targets are met without compromising service delivery or long-term growth and sustainability
    • Ensure that divisional costs are managed to optimise profit, long term sustainability and shareholder return
    • Ensure development and implementation of a sales and business development strategy by leading and directing the target and price setting process for all the information services business and product lines , overseeing the development of the business and sales plan, monitoring and reviewing the achievement of revenue associated with sales targets on a monthly and quarterly basis and, where sales targets are not being met, planning interventions and mitigating activities to address shortfall
    • Ensure development and implementation of an indices strategy by actively managing pricing to maximise revenue, partnering with external providers and other JSE divisions in market initiatives designed to increase value traded and listed products, monitoring and reviewing the achievement of revenue associated with sales and listed product targets on a monthly and quarterly basis and, where targets are not being met, actively engaging with responsible executive to identify and implement mitigating actions
    • Ensure development and implementation of a valuations strategy by actively managing the integrity of the valuations process, developing methodologies including alignment to international regulations and best practice and partnering with other JSE divisions in market initiatives designed to increase value traded and increase overall trust in the JSE services and market integrity.
    • Oversee and direct the development and implementation of the annual Sales, Products and Services strategic vision and business plans
    • Sponsor prioritised projects by overseeing projects’ financial budgets and delivery deadlines, engaging with market and regulators when required and managing and mitigating project risks.
    • Ensure oversight, appropriate risk management and compliance with local and international law and best practice Interact with peers, department members, direct reports and manager/s in a way that promotes openness and trust and gives them confidence in one’s intentions
    • Ensure that division’s business performance enhancing ideas are signed off
    • Build relationships with all stakeholders
    • Provide thought leadership, insight and strategic direction to the various data teams
    • Ensure the continuous delivery of increased functionality for the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system, providing guidance and directions, prioritisation of resolution of issues, ensuring risks are managed and that timeline and budgets are met in order to enable the JSE to effectively manage the client information.
    • Develop divisional strategy and structure
    • Lead policy implementation and make strategic decisions at board level
    • Make decisions that affect the direction of the division or the JSE on a 3-5 year horizon by engaging with peers in the South African market or global peers together with the CEO and board
    • Set and meet divisional EE/BEE targets

    • Oversee divisional operations and ensure integrity in the data and information the JSE produces and manages. Identify and implement information governance principles, strategies and operational processes.
    • Measure and track year-on–year improvements in divisional capability
    • Oversee, review and respond to policy, brand, standard and regulatory compliance at an executive level
    • Lead policy implementation and make strategic decisions at board level
    • Ensure business model remains commercially viable
    • Make decisions that affect the direction of the division or the JSE on a 3-5 year horizon by engaging with peers in the South African market or global peers together with the CEO and board
    • Ensure that the division has the right leader in the right job by holding managers of managers accountable for developing leaders and themselves
    • Lead senior recruitment processes to ensure selection contributing to success of division
    • Utilise talent management practices to identify and develop future leaders and retain current talent to ensure a pipeline of future leaders and ensure business sustainability
    • Conduct performance review sessions with team members
    • Introduce and ensure implementation of global best practice in support of divisional and JSE goals
    • Champion innovation and continuous improvement
    • Set and meet divisional EE/BEE targets
    • Lead and manage staff
