About The Role

A leading STI insurer based in Jozi is looking for a Senior Underwriter with a minimum of 7 years underwriting experience. The incumbent will be responsible to underwrite low risk, profitable new and renewal business (large clients) to meet the Business objectives and goals within the Guarantee Insurance space.

Minimum Requirements

• A Degree in Finance or similar
• FAIS representative
• Minimum 7 years construction industry or insurance or banking experience
• Previous experience to the insurance/banking industry/ies

Job Description

• Ownership of key client facilities
• Participate in the development and execution of the underwriting strategy
• Underwrite Profitable Business i.e. new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets
• Manage and operate the counter guarantee solution with partner banks
• Training and development of Underwriter and administrators
• Negotiate price, quotes, terms and conditions
• Lead the underwriting of facility applications that satisfy the business unit’s underwriting principles and criteria
• Supervise and mentor the underwriter and the junior underwriter to a point of autonomy where he/she is capable of processing a successful underwriting report
• Manage the underwriting books i.e.analyse trends and scenario plans from which portfolio strategies can be developed and implemented
• Manage the large client’s a facility review process on an annual basis
• Prepare portfolio reports for management feedback
• Administer the recording and allocation of transactions effectively on KIT system in order to produce accurate and relevant reports and trending statements
• Assist in the business development space, in consultation with Management, to source and profitably underwrite new business for both conventional and non-conventional markets
• Compile assessment and review reports for all facilities, but not limited to the following
• Trending analyses
• Peer analysis
• Order book and pipeline distribution
• Employer reports
• Country reports
• Compile risk assessment reports for project sites

• Implement Risk analyses and review of facilities and portfolio
• Assist with developing a market risk platform
• Audit KIT system information and liaise with KIT developer/s
• Administer fronting-insurer transactions
• Assist with development of a client competitor schedule
• To assist with the training of internal support staff
• Represent Company at client meetings across South Africa and internationally for both large new clients and existing clients’ facility review purposes
• Regular meetings with bankers, group businesses, intermediaries (amongst others) on business initiatives
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key intermediaries and clients and other relevant stakeholders
• Undertake site visits on projects (in South Africa and outside South Africa) that are listed for project monitoring
