Data Engineer at IQ Business

Job description

We are looking for dynamic individuals to provide expertise and guidance in the design, development, optimization, implementation and maintenance of data integration solutions designed with SQL databases and database objects (stored procedures, user defined functions, tables, views, indexes, etc).

Key Performance Areas:

• Design of data integration solutions for real-time and batch environments
• Develop and modify complex SQL queries, (ETL packages, stored procedures, etc.) to meet business requirements
• Ensure standardization of coding practices and adherence to coding standards, change control, and best practices
• Perform problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventative techniques
• Ensure operational database and integration systems are functioning within specification and provide optimisation where necessary
• Perform tests and produce results to ensure accurate compliance with project requirements
• Manage priorities across design and development activities as well as defect resolution
• Interact with technical and business stakeholders to, create solutions and solve problems collaboratively
• Assist in data analysis and data modelling where required

Qualifications:

• Matric plus an ICT relevant diploma or degree from a recognised tertiary institution
• Appropriate Microsoft certifications are beneficial but not required
• Have a Drivers' License and a willingness to travel

Experience and skills required:

• Must have at least 5 years' experience, ideally in a consulting or financial services environment
• Project exposure (waterfall and/or agile methodologies)
• Knowledge of full SDLC
• Practical experience of converting business requirements into technical solutions
• Design and development of databases with a strength in MS SQL Server (DB design, optimisation, tuning, stored procedures, triggers, views, etc.)
• Solid understanding of T-SQL and SQL design principles
• Expert in using SSIS. Exposure to other integration/ETL tools advantageous.
• Performance tuning of databases, ETL packages, scripts and stored procedures
• Interpretation of program specifications
• Exposure to logical and physical data modelling using industry best practices, patterns and frameworks advantageous
• Agile Scrum software development practices and disciplines and team-based software development an advantage
