Job Description

• An international engineering and mining company is looking for an experienced Accountant to join their team. Driving financial integrity and operational accuracy, this full-time role oversees the full spectrum of day-to-day accounting functions, payroll, and statutory reporting within an established professional services environment. Based on-site in Maitland, Cape Town, the position plays a central role in sustaining business performance through accurate transactions, robust financial controls, and reliable management reporting.
• The role demands an experienced finance professional capable of maintaining continuous audit readiness, providing line management to an accounting administrator, and ensuring strict compliance with applicable South African tax legislation and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute timely and accurate month-end and year-end close-out processes, including monthly adjustments, journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare comprehensive audit schedules, supporting documentation, and adjustment journals to maintain continuous compliance and audit readiness.
• Manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing, statutory deductions, expense claims, EMP501 reconciliations, IRP5 generation, and timely SARS submissions (VAT, levies, and statutory returns).
• Monitor operational cash flow, execute bank transfers, process approved payments, and oversee debtor follow-ups and supplier statement reconciliations.
• Review accounting transactions for completeness and accuracy, including the approval and oversight of purchase orders and staff credit spending.
• Provide line management, direction, and task prioritisation to the accounting administrator to ensure quality standards and reporting deadlines are consistently met.

Requirements

• BCom Accounting or BCom Finance degree.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• Proven experience within a professional services or project-based environment.
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and South African tax legislation.
• Advanced MS Office capability, particularly in complex spreadsheet management.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the confidence to interact professionally with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
